Domaszowice Rządowe combines a location at the foot of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains with an unusually rich local history. Chapels, memorials, traces of a former manor estate and a distinctive textile tradition give the place several different facets. If you are interested in culture and regional heritage, you will find specific topics here that are distinct from one another—from the architectural history of a chapel to a former pilgrimage route.

Chapel Architecture and Religious Art

The Chapel of Our Lady of Częstochowa was built in the mid-19th century near the bishop’s court, which no longer exists today. The place is called Domaszowice Rządowe, also known as Stara Wieś. The chapel began with what is now the chancel; the nave and a small bell tower with a roof lantern were added later. Its building material also sets it apart: it is made of masonry, while most of the other chapels in this project were built of wood.

Details of the interior preserved in local accounts include an image of the Madonna in the nave, with the year 1815 on its frame, and a holy-water font made of Bolechów stone. The side altars feature different saints: on the left is an image of Saint Isidore, probably dating from the late 18th century; on the right is an image of Saint Anthony, probably from around the same period. The dating of both images is tentative. The churchyard also contains a cast-iron crucifix from 1897, donated by Franciszek and Maciej Strużyk.

The chapel may be a focal point for anyone interested in religious architecture and its furnishings. Its history can be traced through several specific features: the gradual extension of the building, the images and the crucifix in the churchyard. These details differ from the visible traces of the former manor estate, which show another side of local history.

Memorial Sites and Traces of the Past

An iron cross stands on a stone pedestal in Domaszowice. Its inscription commemorates patriotic gatherings before the January Uprising: “Błogosław Boże Twojemu ludowi”. The historian and writer Walery Przyborowski, who took part in the January Uprising, was also born in Domaszowice.

A group of trees and overgrown remains of a park are visible traces of the former manor estate. Together with the former bishop’s court, which no longer exists, they point to historic sites whose present-day condition differs: remains of one building are visible in the landscape, while the bishop’s court has disappeared. Historically, two routes also converged in Domaszowice. Historically, two routes converged in Domaszowice: one came from Kielce, the other from Szydłówek. This connection belongs to the history of the place and does not describe the current road layout.

A pilgrimage route to Częstochowa also used to pass through Domaszowice. This historic route is another chapter in the local history; it should not be confused with a present-day route. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing these former connections from the surviving architectural and landscape features.

Textile Traditions and Local Customs

Domaszowice is considered the birthplace of the fashion for so-called domaszowskie zapaski. They are distinguished by narrow stripes and are regarded as the oldest type of zapaska in the Świętokrzyskie region. If you are interested in regional clothing and crafts, this is a distinctive feature that clearly sets the place apart from its architecture and religious memorial sites.

Local celebrations also form part of the cultural picture. At the initiative of the Domaszowianki singing ensemble, Kusoki are held in Domaszowice at the end of the carnival season. The harvest festival is considered a long-standing tradition. The two customs differ in the time of year they mark: Kusoki is associated with the end of the carnival season, while the harvest festival is associated with the harvest. For specific event dates, check the relevant information before your trip.

Location in the Surrounding Area

Domaszowice borders Cedzyna to the east. A reservoir on the Lubrzanka River is located there. This adds a nearby geographical point of reference to the cultural themes of the place, without attributing the reservoir to Domaszowice itself. This allows you to distinguish between the local chapels, textile tradition and historic memorial sites on the one hand, and the surrounding area on the other, when choosing your destination.
