The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Its Art

The brick church has groin vaults, a chapel, a vestibule and a tower visible from far away. The main altar features a painting from 1696 depicting the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Another altar is dedicated to Our Lady of the Scapular and dates from the 17th century; the church also contains a painting of the Black Madonna of Częstochowa from the early 18th century.

Even smaller details tell stories of different eras: the church houses a Rococo statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1768. The late Renaissance baptismal font bears a non-Polish coat of arms. Chapel, Crafts and Ancient History

Travelers passing through are encouraged to stop at the Chapel of St. Barbara, which stands on a hill in Wzdół. It is associated with a legend about a treasure said to have been buried by four brothers in the 17th century. The town’s working history goes back a long way, too: Wzdół had historic ironworks and ore mines. In the 14th century, Wzdół supplied building materials for the construction of Bodzentyn Castle.

Nearby Orzechówka is home to the Axe Museum, located at an agritourism farm. The collection comprises more than 1,850 axes; the oldest dates from around 1720.
