Ostrowo (Ostrów Wielkopolski) lies on the edge of the Kalisz Upland and along the Ołobok River. City History and Distinctive Architecture
Ostrów Wielkopolski’s town museum is located in the Town Hall. The synagogue offers a different perspective on the town’s history: Ostrów Wielkopolski builder Moritz Lande constructed it between 1857 and 1860 in the former Jewish quarter. Its façade decoration and interior with double galleries are inspired by the Moorish style, giving the synagogue a clearly defined architectural character.
The building underwent extensive renovation from 2009 to 2011. On 6 October 2011, it was formally handed over for cultural use under the name “Forum Synagoga”. The co-cathedral complex is also associated with important themes in the town’s history: Cardinal Halka Ledóchowski, the struggle for Polish identity and the Greater Poland Uprising. The Old Cemetery, meanwhile, is one of Poland’s oldest Roman Catholic burial grounds. Together, these places offer different ways to explore the past, without reducing their stories to a single chapter.
Green Spaces and Time Outdoors
Park Miejski is in the centre of Ostrów Wielkopolski. Walking and cycling paths, a pond with fountains and an amphitheatre offer various reasons to spend time outdoors in the park. Open-air concerts and folk festivals are also held there; check specific dates separately when planning your trip.
A different kind of experience awaits at the Piaski sports and recreation centre in the northern part of the town. Located by a body of water, it has a sandy beach. A pedestrian and cycle promenade runs around the reservoir. Pedal boats, kayaks and boats are available to rent on the water; check current availability before planning a rental. The Park Przygód in Piaski-Szczygliczka has three courses of varying difficulty, with a combined length of more than 500 metres. If you plan to visit, check the current operating details in advance.

The attractions offer different experiences: Park Miejski centres on paths, a pond and an amphitheatre, while Piaski combines a promenade and beach with activities on the water. Park Przygód adds courses of varying difficulty to the options.
The tourist narrow-gauge railway also runs different routes depending on the time of year. In summer, it travels through Piaski and the streets of Ostrów Wielkopolski. During the school year, it runs between Piaski and the nature trail operated by ZOiGO MZO S.A., the municipal waste management company on ul. Staroprzygodzka. On the “Ekopodróże” trips, participants learn about the flora and fauna of Piaski. If you would like to include the railway in your plans, check the current timetable in advance.
