Churches and Architectural History
The former Bernardine monastery complex in Ostrzeszów consists of interconnected church and monastery buildings. Baroque polychrome wall paintings have been preserved in the monastery church. “Polychrome” means multicoloured painting and here refers to the colourful decoration of the walls.
The parish church also displays several historical layers: its frescoes were donated by townspeople between the 14th and 19th centuries. This long period spans several centuries of civic involvement. Baroque altars are another feature; the high altar holds a copy of Murillo’s “Assumption of the Virgin.” Thus, the wall paintings donated over a long period stand alongside altar furnishings clearly described as Baroque.
Baszta Kazimierzowska and the Regional Museum
The Baszta Kazimierzowska is the surviving tower of the former castle in Ostrzeszów. It was restored in 1960 and adapted for museum and exhibition purposes. As a lookout point, it offers a view over the city panorama.

The black access trail “W Dolinę Baryczy” leads from Ostrzeszów via Rojów to Szklarka Myślniewska and is 11 kilometres long. According to its description, it is suitable for beginners. Cycling in the Wider Destination of Schildberg
In the wider destination of Schildberg, the Amber Cycling Route runs from Syców via the Ostrzeszów Hills, Kobyla Góra, Ostrzeszów, Mikstat, Ołobok, Kalisz, Russów, Stare Miasto, Konin and Ślesin to Przewóz. Ostrzeszów is therefore on the course of a longer regional route. It runs mostly along paved roads with light traffic; some sections occasionally follow unpaved farm or forest tracks. According to the route description, there are no major technical difficulties; the route can be ridden regardless of bicycle type or fitness level. As surface conditions may change, check them before setting out.
Getting There by Car
National Road 11 passes through Ostrzeszów. The stated corridor connects Kołobrzeg, Piła, Poznań, Ostrów Wielkopolski, Ostrzeszów, Lubliniec and Bytom. This road provides a specific point of reference for travelling to the town by car.
