Cultural venues and trails offer two distinct themes for planning your trip to Pleszew. The town combines a permanent archaeological exhibition and a cultural centre in a restored railway shed with opportunities for Nordic walking and hiking. You can therefore start planning your stay around the focus you prefer: exhibitions and events, or time on the named trails.

Museums and culture in Pleszew

The Muzeum Regionalne in Pleszew houses the permanent archaeological exhibition “Z pradziejów Pleszewa i okolic”. Its title refers to the prehistory of Pleszew and its surroundings. The museum’s collection also includes paintings, drawings and gouaches by Marian Bogusz. The museum therefore brings together a permanent archaeological exhibition and a fine art collection as distinct subjects.

Zajezdnia Kultury is housed in a restored railway shed at ul. Kolejowa 3 in Pleszew. Its programme includes concerts, performances, exhibitions, film screenings and workshops for children, young people and adults. The mix appeals to different interests; which events are right for your visit depends on the programme at the time. As the programme can vary, it is worth checking the event listings before your trip.

Trails for Nordic walking and hiking

The “Leśna Pętla” Nordic walking route runs through Leśny “Planty” Park. It is a named trail within the park, offering a different way to spend time outdoors than a longer hiking route. A marked hiking trail starts in Pleszew and leads via Lutynia to Dobrzyca; it is 18 km long. Check the current trail markings on site before planning this route. Take the 18 km distance into account when planning your day.

Culture and architectural history in the wider Pleschen destination

The wider Pleschen destination includes other cultural and historical themes. Pleszew Town Hall was built in 1835 in the Neoclassical style. At St Florian’s Church, the eastern section is a Gothic structure dating from before 1444. The two buildings offer different points of reference in time: one dates to 1835, the other to before 1444. The Pleszew Regional Museum is housed in a former post inn built around 1820–1830. At this museum site, the history of the building and that of the museum come together.

Several specialist museums also shape the cultural offering in the wider Pleschen destination. The “Kuźnia Zawodów” Craft Museum displays tools, equipment, photographs and documents relating to crafts in the Pleszew region. The Bakery Museum explains how bread is made and displays old bakery equipment, including three ovens for bread and confectionery. The convent museum of the Służebniczki Sisters includes embroidery, tools and documents from the domestic science school run by the congregation since 1923. These collections focus on different subjects: crafts, baking and the history of the domestic science school.

Compare routes by length and course

The wider Pleschen destination also has descriptions of marked hiking trails with different distances. The Pleszew–Lenartowice–Tursko trail is 14 km long; the route from Pleszew via Lutynia to Dobrzyca is 18 km. The shorter distance therefore applies to the route via Lenartowice and Tursko, and the longer one to the route via Lutynia and Dobrzyca. When choosing, compare both the distance and the places named, rather than looking at the length alone. A section of the Transwielkopolska Cycle Route also passes through the town and municipality of Pleszew. In Pleschen, the narrow-gauge railway runs regular services all year round, as well as tourist services with open carriages in summer. Its station building was built in 1903. Check the timetable before travelling.
