Ostrów Królewski: Lavender and a Historic Chapel
Accommodation in Jodłówka
Ostrów Królewski offers two distinct points of interest: a historic stone chapel with a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the small Lawenda Fioletowe Pole lavender plantation on the edge of the forest. If you are considering the area for a trip to Poland, you can distinguish between a specific cultural landmark and an agricultural theme. Whether the chapel, lavender cultivation, or both tip the balance depends on what experiences you are looking for on your trip.
Lavender on the Edge of the Forest
Lawenda Fioletowe Pole was established in 2019. More than 1,300 shrubs of narrow-leaved and intermediate lavender grow on the small plantation. Its location on the edge of the forest gives the lavender theme a specific connection to the landscape. This makes it possible to associate the plants with two explicitly named types of lavender and a clearly stated location.
The plantation offers photo shoots as well as workshops for children, adults, and organized groups. If you are planning one of these activities, check in advance which dates are currently available. A two-day event was scheduled for September 5 and 6, 2026, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. each day. The program included walks around the plantation, a workshop on making sachets filled with dried lavender, and tastings of lavender products, including syrup and cookies. This program was planned for a past date.
A Historic Chapel
Ostrów Królewski is also home to a historic stone chapel with a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In 2024, the municipality reported that it had undergone extensive renovation. The stone construction and statue of Mary give the building a clear cultural and religious significance; the renovation adds a more recent chapter to its history. The chapel thus provides a different point of interest from lavender cultivation.
Landscape in a Regional Context
Nearby, in the Sołectwo Jodłówka, lies the Jodłowski Forest, one of the forest complexes in the Bratucicki Obszar Chronionego Krajobrazu. The Gróbka River flows from south to north through the central part of this protected area. The forest complex and the river course thus form part of a regional landscape that extends beyond the two specific points of interest in Ostrów Królewski.
The Bratucicki Obszar Chronionego Krajobrazu covers 16,495 hectares. It extends across parts of the municipality of Rzezawa, including part of Jodłówka, as well as part of the municipality of Bochnia in Powiat bocheński. In the adjoining Powiat brzeski to the east, the protected area also extends across the municipalities of Szczurowa, Borzęcin, and Brzesko. This expanse places the forest and the river within a larger landscape.
When choosing where to go, it helps to keep the different scales in mind: the chapel and the lavender plantation are the specific points of interest in Ostrów Królewski; Jodłówka, the Gróbka, and the protected area broaden the view to the surrounding region. This can help you decide whether local culture, lavender cultivation, or the wider landscape is most important for your trip.
