Uhryń between stream geology and nature trails
Accommodation in Uhryń
Uhryń mainly appeals to travelers who want to discover nature through distinctive landscape features. Two trails offer different perspectives: the geological trail follows the valley of the Uhryń Stream, while the nature trail named “im. Adama Hrabiego Stadnickiego” runs through Uhryń and continues along a longer route. You can plan your stay around a short, geology-focused walk or a more extensive nature route.
Geology along the Uhryń Stream
The geological trail runs along a deeply incised, winding stretch of the lower stream. Along almost the entire route, the water of the Uhryń Stream has exposed outcrops of folded rock. They date from the early Eocene and belong to the Sącz Subunit of the Magura Formation. “Folded” describes curved rock layers and helps explain the shape of the outcrops. The trail is also intended to introduce visitors to both living and non-living nature.
The broader geological context is part of the story, too: the trail covers formations of the Magura Nappe, which shapes the geological structure of the Beskid Sądecki. The Paleogene of the Sącz Zone is particularly well exposed in the Uhryń Stream valley. The early Eocene is part of the Paleogene; these terms classify the rocks at different levels of geological time. In this way, the trail connects individual stream outcrops with a regional geological overview.
Two trails, different scales
The geological trail is 2 km long, has 11 stops, and takes about 1.5 hours to walk. Allow about 10–15 minutes to read the information at the stops.
The nature trail named “im. Adama Hrabiego Stadnickiego” is designed differently: it is about 22 km long and runs from Łabowa through Uhryń to Hala Łabowskie, then on to Hala Pisana and Makowica, and into the Życzanów valley near Rytro. Its length and series of named destinations make it a different route choice from the 2 km geological trail. If you are considering Uhryń as a destination, you can therefore choose between focusing locally on the stream or taking a route that extends considerably farther.
The geological trail is marked with the traditional white-and-green square symbol for nature trails. Trail conditions can vary and markings may change, so check local conditions before setting out.
Woodland nearby
The Uhryń Nature Reserve in the surrounding area offers another way to experience nature. It protects beech and fir stands about 230 years old, characteristic of the former Carpathian primeval forest. The nature trail honoring Count Adam Stadnicki also passes through the nature reserve. The woodland and trail therefore complement the geological perspective on the stream with a distinct connection to protected tree stands. For planning purposes, these are separate aspects: the rock outcrops along the stream, the woodland setting of the nature reserve, and the longer nature-trail route.
