Zembrzyce is an interesting starting point for a trip where hiking trails and cultural history play an equally important role. Two red-marked hiking trails lead from here in different directions: west through the Beskid Mały and east over the Chełm Ridge and Babica to Myślenice. There is also a neo-Gothic church, a local history room and historic buildings. Which of these aspects interests you most can influence how you plan your days and choose accommodation in Zembrzyce.

Hiking trails in two directions

The red-marked hiking trail heading west runs over Gołuszkowa Góra (715 m) and Żurawnica (726 m), as well as through the village of Krzeszów. It continues to the summit of Jaworzyna (Groń Jana Pawła II, 890 m) and the PTTK mountain shelter on Leskowiec (922 m). This gives you a route for your hiking plans that includes several named elevations and a specific endpoint.

Heading east, the red-marked trail also runs from Zembrzyce over the Chełm Ridge (603 m) and Babica (727 m) to Myślenice. The two route descriptions offer different directions and destinations to guide your planning.

Church, local history room and the village’s past

The Church of St John the Baptist in Zembrzyce is a three-nave neo-Gothic brick church. It was built from 1911 to 1913. There is also a monument in the centre commemorating those who fell in the First World War. It was erected in 1925 and donated by the local population. Both buildings give your exploration of the village a tangible historical connection, without reducing the history of Zembrzyce to a single building.

The local history room at the Centrum Rekreacji i Wypoczynku displays objects from the everyday lives of former residents of the municipality; the oldest exhibits date from the 19th century. Those interested in everyday history will find a different perspective here than at the striking historic buildings. The Neoclassical manor house in Zembrzyce is a plastered brick building and is listed in the register of monuments.

The history of Grodzisko can also be placed in a timeframe: its fortifications were probably built between the 13th and 16th centuries on the site of an earlier settlement from the Lusatian culture. Reliefs are found on a stone plinth in Zembrzyce, probably dating from the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries; they include depictions of Cyril and Methodius. The different dates refer to different remains and periods.

Plan your visit and stay
