The Church of St Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist and St Lawrence the Martyr was built between 1583 and 1588. Its late Gothic and Renaissance forms meet a Baroque interior. The building thus brings together different architectural elements.

The Renaissance manor house in Pabianice is colloquially known as “Zamek” and is a unique, valuable monument of 16th-century Polish architecture. The Museum of the City of Pabianice is housed in this manor house. Its collection includes prehistoric, medieval and modern-era artefacts from Pabianice. These include a coin hoard from the 16th to 18th centuries, originating from the Renaissance manor house. The site therefore brings together a historic building and collection items from several periods of the city’s history.

Other buildings mark distinct periods. The Evangelical-Augsburg Church of St Peter and St Paul dates from 1827; it was consecrated and opened for worship in 1832. The mausoleum of the Kindler family, built in 1911, has been preserved in the Evangelical-Augsburg Cemetery. The former Baruch factory is a testament to regional industrial architecture: the complex is located on Lipowa Street, between Zamkowa and Grobelna, and is typical of the industrial architecture of the Łódź region. The churches, mausoleum and factory thus point to different chapters in the city’s history and architectural heritage, representing neither the same period nor the same type of building.

The Dobrzynka, the Park and a Walk

The Dobrzynka also shapes several of the landscape features described here. The “Lewityn” leisure centre lies in the south of Pabianice, around water basins and beside the river. The historic Juliusz Słowacki Park was established in 1901 and is also located by the Dobrzynka. The two sites offer different points of interest: water basins in the setting of a leisure centre at one, and a historic city park at the other.

Another landmark is the regulated main channel of the Dobrzynka. A promenade called “bulwary” runs along its edge, connecting Marchlewskiego and Grobelna Streets. The “Śladami Wielokulturowości Pabianic” (“In the Footsteps of Pabianice’s Multicultural Heritage”) route has also been created for a walk exploring traces of different cultures and religions in Pabianice. It offers a different focus from the river and park landscapes, centring on the city’s cultural and religious heritage.
