Poręba lies in the Porębnik Valley, which cuts into the Bystrzyckie Mountains towards the 690-metre-high Przełęcz nad Porębą Pass. This brings together a clearly defined valley landscape and routes associated with the pass. It is particularly interesting when choosing a destination in Poland if you would like to combine cycling and hiking routes with the surrounding landscape and historical heritage. The route details show different ways of planning: a circular route, a connection between two towns, and a designated walking route.

Cycling Routes through Poręba

A cycling route of about 37 kilometres starts in Bystrzyca Kłodzka, passes through Stara Bystrzyca, Wójtowice, Młoty, Spalona and Poręba to Długopole-Zdrój, and then returns to Bystrzyca Kłodzka. Poręba is therefore one of several places along a longer route, rather than its endpoint. The second cycling route is about 45 kilometres long and also passes through Poręba on its way from Bystrzyca Kłodzka to Długopole-Zdrój. It initially follows the international ER 2 cycle route; from Poręba, it continues along a green trail.

When comparing the routes, it is not just the difference between about 37 and about 45 kilometres that matters: the first route explicitly includes a return to Bystrzyca Kłodzka, while the second leads to Długopole-Zdrój. The change from the ER 2 to the green trail also gives the longer route its own distinct orientation. This allows you to take the circular route and the stated destination into account as different features when planning your trip.

Walking to the Pass

The Długopole-Zdrój–Poręba–Przełęcz nad Porębą route is designated as a walking route, covering 5.5 kilometres with a walking time of 1 hour and 45 minutes. It leads from Długopole-Zdrój through Poręba to the 690-metre-high pass. The surrounding area is considered particularly scenic. The route is not signposted; access is via a road. Take this into account when planning and check the route before setting off. The distance and walking time help you consider this walk as a separate option alongside the cycling routes, without treating the different types of route as equivalent.

Church and Historical Traces

Poręba is home to St Sebastian’s Church, which is protected as a historic monument and is included in the register and list of historic monuments. Next to the church is a stone Calvary group, dating to the 18th or 19th century. There is also a penitential cross in Poręba. These landmarks give the town a cultural and historical dimension distinct from exploring cycling and hiking routes.

Further historical traces lie north and south of the pass: the overgrown remains of two small combat bunkers are hidden there. The bunkers were built by Germans in the 1930s. The church and Calvary group in Poręba, and the bunker remains at the pass, represent different periods of history. If you are interested in both, you can consider these features separately while exploring the town and its landscape, without combining them into a single attraction.

Two questions are particularly helpful when choosing a route: would you prefer to consider a circuit returning to Bystrzyca Kłodzka or a route to Długopole-Zdrój, and are you looking for a cycling route or the designated walking route with its unsignposted course? The historical heritage adds a cultural perspective on Poręba and the pass to this comparison.
