Milicz brings together several specific travel interests: historic buildings, cycling routes, a circular route around the recreational reservoir and railway history. Architecture and history in Milicz
The Neoclassical Maltzan Palace was built between 1790 and 1798 to a design by Karol G. Geissler. Another architectural stop is the Baroque Church of St. Andrew Bobola, also known as the Church of Grace. Its half-timbered structure is infilled with brick; construction took place from 1709 to 1714. The Church of St. Anne, dating from the 19th century, adds another historic building to this selection.
Historic townhouses line the market square. The Muzeum Bombki offers a different way to explore the town’s history: it is now housed in the buildings of the former Christmas ornament factory in Milicz. The town thus brings together different themes—from church architecture and Neoclassical design to the former use of a factory building. When planning, it is worth considering the buildings and their different periods as distinct points of interest rather than grouping them together as a single attraction.
Two cycling routes of different lengths
The blue Szlak Stawów Milickich cycling route runs from Grabówka through Milicz and Grabownica to Czatkowice and is 28.7 kilometres long. Another option is the cycling route along the former narrow-gauge railway line. It runs from Gruszeczka through Sułów and Milicz to Grabownica and is 23 kilometres long. Both routes pass through Milicz; the places listed and the total distances differ. When planning your rides, you can compare the route sequences and distances given for both routes.
Railway history is also present along the cycling route: an exhibition of historic railway rolling stock is located at Milicz Zamek station. This adds another connection to the former narrow-gauge railway to your ride. Check current conditions along the routes before setting out.
Around the recreational reservoir
The “Nad milickim zalewem” path circles the recreational reservoir in Milicz and is one kilometre long. This short loop makes a good standalone activity. There is also a pierogarnia at the recreational reservoir serving pierogi from the Barycz Valley. If you would like to include both in your plans, this offers a clear focal point for a stay by the water. Getting oriented and finding accommodation
Milicz Tourist Information is located in the “Stara Rzeźnia”, at 1 b Szewska Street, near the market square. It provides information about bicycle rentals and kayaking routes. If you are planning a trip on the water or by bike, you can ask there about kayaking routes and bicycle rentals.
When choosing where to stay, you can weigh up the interests mentioned above: if architectural heritage is your priority, the palace, churches, market square and museum offer different points of historical interest. If you mainly want to cycle, the two routes described differ both in length and in the places listed. For a shorter outing by the water, the one-kilometre circular route offers a different scale. This way, you can choose what to experience in Milicz based on what you would like to include in your trip.
