Castle and Traces of the Town Fortifications

The Zamek Książęcy w Oleśnicy is considered the town’s most valuable and magnificent monument, as well as one of the most valuable monuments in Lower Silesia. It was built in the 14th century in the south-western part of the town fortifications. Large sections of the brick-built fortifications have survived to this day. Together, the castle and sections of the wall tell the story of the town’s historic character, though Oleśnica’s architectural history is not limited to a single monument.

Brama Wrocławska also dates from the 14th century. The listed gate is used as an exhibition space. For visitors interested in historic buildings and culture, it brings both together in one place: a structure from the town’s history that now serves as an exhibition space.

Churches, Library and Local History

The Bazylika Mniejsza pw. św. Jana Apostoła in Oleśnica is one of the oldest churches in Silesia. Visits include the main nave, the Wirtemberg Mausoleum, the chained library and the ducal gallery. On 9 January 2026, a new exhibition space on the history of the town and region opened in the crypts of the Bazylika Mniejsza pw. św. Jana Apostoła i Ewangelisty. The opening adds a perspective on the town and its regional surroundings to Oleśnica’s historical themes.

The Oleśnicki Dom Spotkań z Historią at 11 Bociania Street organises exhibitions on local history and cultural heritage. It also offers museum lessons on these topics. Exhibitions and lessons are two different ways to engage with Oleśnica’s history and cultural heritage.

Leisure Activities at ATOL

The ATOL leisure complex offers activities throughout the year for people of all ages and levels of physical ability.
