Puławy is best explored through its Czartoryski heritage: historic buildings in the park of the Muzeum Czartoryskich, an exhibition in the palace, and a former palace chapel reveal different facets of the city’s history. The park buildings are open to visitors seasonally; parking and bus stops are also useful to consider when planning your visit.

Park Buildings and Museum

The historic buildings Świątynia Sybilli, Dom Gotycki and Domek Aleksandryjski are located in the park of the Muzeum Czartoryskich. They are open to visitors from June to September. Świątynia Sybilli is considered Poland’s first museum of national memorabilia. It represents a special connection between architecture and the culture of remembrance.

The palace exhibition comprises five exhibition rooms on the ground floor and two upper floors. Visiting hours for Świątynia Sybilli and Dom Gotycki are listed as Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:50 p.m., with a break from 1:00 to 1:40 p.m., from 1 June to 30 September. Check the visiting schedule before your visit. These hours apply to the two buildings named; no separate schedule is listed here for Domek Aleksandryjski.

At the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, Puławy was an important cultural centre thanks to Adam Kazimierz and Izabela Czartoryska, and was known as the “Polish Athens.” This historic nickname provides a shared cultural context for the buildings and the exhibition.

The Former Palace Chapel

The Kościół pw. Wniebowzięcia NMP (Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary) tells another chapter in the city’s history. It is a former palace chapel founded by Prince Adam Kazimierz Czartoryski. The Neoclassical building was designed by architect Christian Piotr Aigner; the chapel was consecrated in 1815. In Puławy, you can therefore see both the historic park buildings and a distinct example of Neoclassical religious architecture.

Parking and Getting Around

Designated free parking areas are located close to the Zespół Rezydencyjny Książąt Czartoryskich. These include spaces for people with disabilities and a bus parking area. As parking regulations can change, check the local situation before your arrival. The Czartoryskich bus stops towards Kazimierz Dolny and Królewska Starostwo towards the city centre are also near the Muzeum Czartoryskich. Check stop names and directions again before travelling.
