Discover the palace, park and trails of Radzyń Podlaski
Accommodation in Radzyń Podlaski
Radzyń Podlaski brings together the history of a grand residence, landscaped garden spaces and opportunities for a bike ride. The Potocki palace and park complex, the town’s religious buildings and the “Bulwar nad Białką” cycling path offer different focuses for a trip. As you explore the town, you can learn about its architectural history while also making time for a ride along the paved path.
Potocki Palace and its garden complex
The Potocki Palace and Park complex took its final form between 1750 and 1759. It follows the French “entre cour et jardin” layout, with the main building positioned between a cour d’honneur and the garden beyond. A garden laid out on axial and symmetrical lines extends north of the palace; at the end of its main axis is a pond-canal. The palace park includes a walking garden of approximately eight hectares. Together, the courtyard, residence and garden create a clear spatial arrangement whose design shapes the site’s historic character.
Sculptural decoration is also part of this impression. The palace is adorned with sculptures by Jan Chryzostom Redler, and rich sculptural decoration characterizes the complex as a whole. Radzyń Podlaski is also home to the Oranżeria, built around 1760 during Eustachy Potocki’s extensive renovation of the residence, to a design by the architect Jakub Fontana. Redler also created its sculptures. The Oranżeria is considered one of the finest Rococo orangery buildings in Poland. In the 1950s and 1960s, it was adapted for use as a cinema and cultural centre. Since 1996, rotating exhibitions have been held in its basement rooms at the “Oranżeria” gallery.
As of 1 July 2026, the interiors of Potocki Palace and the temporary exhibitions there can be visited only on a guided tour. When planning a palace visit, it is therefore useful to distinguish between exploring the historic grounds and taking a guided tour of the interiors.
Religious buildings and local history
The Chapel of the Guardian Angels in Radzyń Podlaski was built in the 17th century with financial support from Under-Chancellor Stanisław Antoni Szczuka. Its hexagonal plan, two storeys and conical roof with a Baroque lantern give the building a distinctive form. During a comprehensive restoration from 2009 to 2011, stucco decorations in the Lublin Renaissance style were uncovered. The chapel can therefore be explored both for its architecture and for its construction and restoration history.
The Church of the Holy Trinity lies along the tourist route “Szlak Renesansu Lubelskiego”. It is also associated with historical memories: on 2 February 1767, Prince-Bishop Ignacy Krasicki officiated at the marriage of Cecylia Urszula Potocka and Prince Janusz Sanguszko in the church. The Mniszech epitaph inside is among the most outstanding monuments of its kind in Poland. Those interested in the town’s history will find both a connection to a named route and significant historical associations here.
Another recurring cultural tradition is the Dni Karola Lipińskiego, an annual classical music concert series honouring the violin virtuoso and composer born in Radzyń Podlaski. Check the programme and dates for the year of your trip. This lets you tailor your cultural plans to your stay without relying on a particular concert date.
Cycling and getting around
The “Bulwar nad Białką” cycling path is 3,290 metres long and paved with cobblestones. The path is lit, and there are parking areas at both ends, as well as toilet cabins. This information can help you plan the ride as a separate part of your itinerary. The Doliną Tyśmienicy cycling route is a 50-kilometre circuit along public roads through Radzyń Podlaski, the Tyśmienica Valley, Czemierniki, Suchowola and Branica, before returning to Radzyń Podlaski. The route description was published in 2018; signage and road conditions may have changed.
The Tourist and Cultural Information Point in Radzyń Podlaski offers publications, souvenirs, audio guides and information materials in several languages. This adds different ways to learn about local sights and their history to your visit.
