Włodawa: Culture, Water and Nature
Accommodation in Włodawa
Włodawa combines cultural history with water-based experiences: the town borders the Bug River directly, and a kayak landing on the Włodawka lets paddlers come ashore, visit the town and then continue along the Bug. Other attractions include historic religious buildings, a museum and synagogue complex, and walks along the Włodawka. This gives you a choice of different ways to focus your trip, from the town’s history and nature to activities on the water.

Cultural History in Włodawa
The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built as a Uniate church in 1840–1842 and has been Orthodox since 1875. It preserves icons and fragments of iconostases from churches that were destroyed during the interwar period. In Włodawa, the Szlak Trzech Kultur leads to this church; St. Louis Church and the Pauline Monastery are also stops along the route. This makes for a cultural and historical itinerary that explores different religious buildings and the history of each.
St. Louis Church has a Rococo interior. The Czworobok offers a different architectural impression: this late Baroque building from the 18th century has a square floor plan, an inner courtyard and two entrance gates. These distinctive architectural features give the building its own character within Włodawa’s history. The museum and synagogue complex adds to the cultural attractions with permanent and temporary exhibitions in its historic buildings.
The Festiwal Trzech Kultur is also part of the city’s cultural life. It was launched in 1995 and has been held annually in Włodawa for more than 20 years. The festival includes workshops, meetings with authors, film screenings, exhibitions, theater performances and concerts. Its range of formats appeals to different interests, with literature, film, visual arts and performances alongside discussions and hands-on workshops.
Water, Walks and a Cycling Route
If you’re out on the water, you can use the kayak landing on the Włodawka as a stopover: paddlers can come ashore there, visit Włodawa and then continue their journey along the Bug. For a walk, the Nadbużańska Promenade runs along the Włodawka. This means you can include both a walking tour and time on the water in your itinerary.
At Jezioro Białe in Okuninka, 7 km from Włodawa, visitors can rent pedal boats, kayaks and SUP boards. There are also inflatable water parks for children. If these activities are the focus of your trip, you can consider Okuninka as a separate search location; Włodawa is the location for visits to the buildings and museum and synagogue complex mentioned above. The municipality of Włodawa is also part of the eastern Green Velo cycling route. At almost 2,000 km, Green Velo is considered Poland’s longest cycling route.
Nature and Remembrance
The Sobiborski Landscape Park is home to rare species such as black storks, European pond turtles, lynxes and wolves. The park adds a nature focus to cultural and water-based activities. The Sobibór Museum and Memorial Site, a branch of the Majdanek Museum, is a separate place for education and remembrance. Each offers a distinct focus: observing nature in the park, and historical education and remembrance in Sobibór.
When looking for accommodation, it helps to first decide what you’d like to focus on: Włodawa offers the cultural sites mentioned above and the kayak landing, while Jezioro Białe is in Okuninka. So check hotels or other accommodation based on the location you’d like to choose for your planned activities. Other places you can explore individually include Różanka, Włodawa, Majdan Stuleński, Sobibór and Wola Uhruska.
