Hiking through ravines and across rolling fields

The green hiking trail through the Działy Grabowieckie starts in Stary Zamość and leads about 9 km east to Majdan Staniecki. Along the way, it passes through ravines with warmth-loving and steppe-like vegetation. At a viewpoint along the trail, the view opens out over the rolling fields of the Działy Grabowieckie. The route, landscape and views make this trail a practical choice if you would like to explore the surrounding area on foot.

Distinct from this is the green “Po Działach Grabowieckich” trail: it is 28 km long and starts at the bus stop in Stary Zamość. Check the current trail markings before setting out.

Cycling trail with stops in the surrounding area

The “Stary Zamość – Pańska Dolina” cycling trail has four stops. It starts in Stary Zamość and passes through Wierzba. Its first stop is the “Izba pamięci poświęcona Karolowi Namysłowskiemu,” a memorial room containing exhibits assembled by members of the Orkiestra Włościańska and people connected with the composer. In this way, the route combines cycling with a glimpse of local musical commemoration.

You can also focus on something different on foot: the marked Gościniec Kmicica trail is lined with old wayside shrines. Those interested in historic buildings will also find the former estate of the Zamoyski Ordination on the road of the same name. The complex includes a manor house, a stable dating from 1900, and the ruins of a wooden four-family house and farm buildings. Its designation as a former estate and the ruins are part of the historical context of this site.

Church, monument and estate

The parish Church of the Assumption of Mary has an organ with 24 stops. It was made around 1911 and has been restored several times. Its approximate date and restorations give the instrument its own historical dimension, which you can take into account when exploring the townscape.

Next to the Gminny Ośrodek Kultury stands a monument honouring those who fell on the battlefields; it was unveiled in 1983. Together with the church and the former estate, it offers several ways to engage with the history of Stary Zamość: through an instrument in a sacred building, a public memorial, and the surviving or ruined parts of an estate complex. When choosing your destination, you can weigh these themes against the scenery along the hiking trails, without reducing the town to a single attraction.
