Tuplice – Brickworks Ruins, Church and Cycling Route
Accommodation in Tuplice
Tuplice combines historic buildings and industrial traces with opportunities for walking and cycling. Its attractions range from a late Gothic church to a railway station dating from the 19th century; the brickworks ruins and the site of a former underground mine tell other chapters of the town’s history. There is also a park with walking trails, Wzgórze Tuplickie for walks, gatherings and leisure, and a cycling route that passes through Tuplice. This gives you a choice of different ways to spend your time, from architectural and industrial history to outdoor activities.
Historic Traces in Tuplice
The ruins of a large brickworks are located in central Tuplice, south of the railway line. They are a reminder of the town’s industrial past. If you plan to visit the ruins, please check access in advance.
The late Gothic church is the oldest surviving architectural attraction in Tuplice and dates from the mid-14th century. Tuplice’s historic railway station dates from 1871. These dates are more than five centuries apart: the church provides a medieval reference point, while the station represents a much later point in the town’s architectural history.
The brickworks and the underground mine represent different chapters of industrial history: brick production in one case and underground mining in the other. This distinction helps put Tuplice’s different historical traces into context, rather than combining them into a single story.
Staw Kołkowy and Mining History
Staw Kołkowy is located in central Tuplice on the site of the former “Amalie” underground mine. The mine operated from 1866 to 1872. This connects a central local landmark with a precisely dated chapter of the town’s history. The mine’s operating years include 1871, the year the historic railway station was built; however, the dates refer to different things: an operating period in one case and the date of a building in the other.
Walks and Leisure
A park with walking trails offers a way to spend time on foot in Tuplice. Wzgórze Tuplickie is also a place for walking, as well as for gatherings, relaxation and leisure. The focus differs when planning your day: the park is primarily about its walking trails, while Wzgórze combines walks with opportunities to meet and spend free time. If you want to combine exercise with socializing or leisure, Wzgórze offers a different experience from the park.
Cycling Route on a Former Railway Line
A 25-kilometer cycling route runs along the former Tuplice–Łęknica railway line, passes through Tuplice and opened in 2014. The 25 kilometers refer to the route’s total length, not just the section that passes through town. This distinguishes the cycling route, with its stated overall length, from the walking options in Tuplice. Its course along the former railway line also gives it a historical connection, while the park and Wzgórze offer opportunities for walks and leisure in town.
