The cultural station at Teresin Niepokalanów station
The Dworzec TO.Kultura! cultural station is located at Teresin Niepokalanów station. The lowest floor contains an event hall with ancillary rooms. The ground floor includes a ticket office, a waiting room and a library point as part of the station facilities. The attic floor has two rooms designated for international cooperation projects. The different levels thus bring together a cultural space and station facilities in one building.
During the renovation, the station was fitted with a lift and adapted for people with disabilities. The station concept also includes multimedia presentations and computer-based information for passengers waiting for a train. Palace architecture and the history of the park
The palace in Teresin was built between 1896 and 1899 to a design by the French architect François Arveuf. Two three-storey towers with square plans and late Baroque cupolas stand on its south façade. This reveals several distinct features: its construction at the end of the 19th century, the shape of the towers and their late Baroque roof structures.
The palace is set in a large landscaped park with old oak trees. The park has been listed in the heritage register under number 612/50 since 8 November 1978. Another precisely dated event is part of its history: the body of the murdered Prince Władysław Drucki-Lubecki was found there on 7 April 1913. The park’s design, its heritage registration and this historical event offer different points of connection to the history of the place.
Green spaces and places nearby
Skwer Niepodległości is located at Teresin Niepokalanów station. A fountain, carefully landscaped greenery and a bench with a figure of Father Maksymilian Kolbe characterise the square. Kolbe also features in the history of nearby Niepokalanów: he founded the Franciscan monastery in the village of Paprotnia in 1927.
In the surrounding area, the landscaped park near Teresin-Gaj is home to, among other species, horse chestnuts, Norway spruces, poplars, aspens, small-leaved lindens, maples, junipers and birches. The oldest trees include Scots pines aged 120 to 180 years, an 80-year-old American tulip tree, a 120-year-old Weymouth pine, and English oaks aged about 300 to 350 years. There is also a water feature in the northern part of the park, created by the widening of two streams.
The two landscaped parks have different focal points: at the palace, the old oak trees and heritage registration stand out; at Teresin-Gaj, it is the variety of tree species, their ages and the water feature.
