For a trip focused on cultural history, Zaborów offers two distinct points of interest: the present-day church with its long parish history and an eclectic palace-and-park complex. The church’s various foundation and construction phases can be distinguished chronologically; the palace reflects architecture from the early 20th century. You can therefore plan your exploration of the place around specific buildings and historical dates.

Church and parish history in Zaborów

The present-day church was built in 1791 to a design by architect Hilary Szpilowski. Karolina and Placyd Izbiński funded the church; it was finally consecrated in 1909. The year of construction and the consecration thus fall in different centuries. If you are interested in the development of church architecture, these dates provide two clearly distinct points of reference.

The parish’s history goes back further: it was established in 1465, and the first wooden church dates from that period. Another wooden church was funded in 1661 by Zofia Kryska, née Lubieńska, the Crown Chancellor. Taken together, these details show a succession of different churches before the present-day church was built. The dates help distinguish the parish’s early beginnings, the later foundation, and the construction of the present-day building.

A more recent historical connection is also associated with the church: Mother Teresa prayed there in 1983. This dated reference sits alongside the older details about the parish and church construction, without being confused with them. Exploring Zaborów through its history lets you consider different periods—from the parish’s founding to a specific event in the 20th century.

Palace architecture and cycling routes

Another historical highlight is the eclectic palace in Zaborów. It was built between 1901 and 1903 to designs by Franciszek Lilpop and Karol Jankowski. Its construction therefore took place considerably later than that of the present-day church in 1791. Comparing the two reveals distinct architectural and chronological points of reference in the area, without placing both buildings in the same period.

The palace-and-park complex is located along the Dąbrowa Leśna–Kampinos and Kampinoski Szlak Rowerowy routes. If you include one of these routes in your travel plans, you can link your visit to the complex with a specific route. Check current route conditions before setting off.

Which historical highlights suit your plans?

For a trip focused on cultural history, you can explore Zaborów through two themes: the succession of the parish, wooden churches, and the present-day church, and the later palace architecture. The church offers several explicitly dated milestones, while the palace, with its construction period and architects, provides a distinct focus. Combining these historical themes with the cycling routes mentioned may be relevant to your plans if you would also like to include a cycling route.

The facts can serve as a chronological guide: 1465 marks the establishment of the parish, 1661 the founding of another wooden church, 1791 the construction of the present-day church, and 1901 to 1903 the construction of the palace. The church’s consecration in 1909 and Mother Teresa’s prayer there in 1983 add two further dates to this sequence. You can decide whether to focus mainly on church history, the palace’s architecture, or a combination of the two.
