Lakes and local history

The small flow-through lake Gorczyckie lies on the boundary between the villages of Płaska and Gorczyca and is part of the Augustów Canal water system. At Lake Paniewo, Płaska has a beach with jetties and barbecue shelters. The two places offer different points of reference for planning: Gorczyckie is defined by its location on the boundary and its connection to the canal system, while Paniewo is defined by its beach and the facilities described there.

Płaska developed on the site of a former logging settlement. Alongside its waterside landscape, the village’s origins are therefore another concrete topic to consider as you prepare for your trip.

Cycling and ski trail for every season

The cycling and ski trail starts next to the Tourist Information Centre and the sports stadium in Płaska. The cycle path from Płaska is paved and forms part of the Green Velo Eastern Cycling Trail. In winter, a section of the route within Płaska municipality is used for cross-country skiing; cross-country skis can be rented at the Tourist Information Centre. The paved cycle path, as part of Green Velo, and the section used for cross-country skiing in winter offer different seasonal perspectives.

At Lakes Paniewo and Krzywe, the route includes a loop within the municipality at each lake, with a barbecue shelter. These two loops are useful reference points for anyone interested in the route of the cycling and ski trail. In winter, a section is also used for cross-country skiing, while the paved cycle path and its connection to Green Velo characterize the cycling route.

Within the municipality, the cycling and ski trail continues to Perkuć Nature Reserve. Established in 1970, it protects a natural pine and spruce forest typical of the Augustowska Forest. Another cultural reference point is the famous Mostek Dowgirda, where a scene from the television series “Czarne chmury” was filmed. Along the route, a protected forest and the film history of a particular bridge are two distinct points of interest.

The Tourist Information Centre provides information about local accommodation options and offers tourist maps and guidebooks. If you plan to use maps or guidebooks, check their availability before your trip. The centre is also where you can rent cross-country skis.

The Bike Bar café offers food and drinks at the Tourist Information Centre. If you plan to visit, check in advance whether it is currently open. Next to the centre is a sports complex with football and volleyball courts, a tennis court, a fitness room, and a sauna.
