Cycling routes with different connections to Doktorce
The red Podlaski Szlak Bociani is 400 kilometres long in total and connects four national parks. Around 15 kilometres of it run through the municipality of Suraż, from Kowale via Suraż, Zawyki and Doktorce to Lesznia. These two lengths describe different sections: 400 kilometres for the entire cycling route, and around 15 kilometres for its stretch through the municipality. Doktorce lies on the named section, but should not be confused with the entire route through the municipality. For orientation, both the town’s place in the route and the route’s larger scale are relevant.
By contrast, the yellow Szlak rowerowy im. Jana Pawła II starts in Doktorce. Its 75 kilometres run via Strabla, Wyszki, Nowe Piekuty and Szepietowo to Czyżew. A clear difference between the two routes is the starting point: the yellow route begins in Doktorce, while the red route passes through the town on its stretch through the municipality of Suraż. Their total lengths also differ: 75 kilometres for the yellow route and 400 kilometres for the red one. Archaeological sites in the Narew area
More than 30 archaeological sites lie within the administrative areas of the villages of Doktorce and Lesznia, mainly in the Narew Valley. There are a further 15 in the vicinity of Doktorce. These additional sites document periods from the Stone, Iron and Bronze Ages through Roman times and the Middle Ages to the modern era. The nearby sites therefore span several historical periods. For culturally minded travellers, this offers a different approach to planning than the cycling routes: the focus here is on the sites and their chronological context, not the length or starting point of a route.
