Okuniowiec: Trails and the “Nad Szeszupę” Route
Accommodation in Okuniowiec
Okuniowiec can be viewed from two perspectives when planning a trip: as a village on the 47-kilometer-long “Nad Szeszupę” route and through municipal construction projects in the village. These perspectives answer different questions. The route places Okuniowiec within a longer sequence of named places; the construction projects provide specific details about a footpath, road, and public space. If you are considering the village as a destination, you can distinguish the broader route from the facilities in the village.
Okuniowiec on the “Nad Szeszupę” Route
The 47 km “Nad Szeszupę” route starts at Suwałki railway station. It passes Lake Okuniowiec and goes through the village, continuing past the buildings in Osinki and the settlement of Studzieniczne to the “Cmentarzysko Jaćwingów” nature reserve. Okuniowiec is a section of the longer route, not its starting or ending point. The sequence gives you a sense of the geography: the railway station, lake, and village come before the named buildings, settlement, and reserve at the route’s destination.
The scale matters when planning your trip: 47 kilometers describes the full route, while the local footpath, about 1.2 kilometers long, is a different construction project. Check the route’s current condition before setting out on “Nad Szeszupę.”
Paths and Roads in the Village
A municipal footpath project created a path in Okuniowiec about 1,216.54 m long and 2.20 m wide, paved with concrete blocks. It runs alongside road No. 102016B and a road within the village. The municipality accepted the project on November 28, 2024. Its length, width, and surface provide specific details about this local construction project.
A separate project concerned the road from district road No. 1153B to municipal road No. 102016B. A gravel road was converted into a paved road with a bituminous surface. The road section is about 1,000 m long and 5 m wide; the upgrades also include a footpath and cycle path, as well as street lighting. The project was completed in 2022. The named roads mark the endpoints of this connection and help place the project within the local road network. The surface distinguishes the projects: the footpath has concrete block paving, while the road upgrade has a bituminous surface.
Public Space
Improvements to the public space in Okuniowiec were also completed. The Gmina Suwałki accepted the project on July 23, 2024. It included a leisure pavilion with four table-and-bench sets. A solar lamp illuminates the area in front. Unlike the road and footpath projects, this one focused on amenities in a public space.
