Rekowo: Nature Trails and Surrounding Landscape
Accommodation in Rekowo
For a nature-focused trip to Rekowo, two nature trails offer concrete points of reference. The 8 km hiking nature trail “Atrakcje przyrodnicze okolic Rekowa i Płotowa” starts at the tourist information point in the center of Rekowo. A second route, also 8 km long, “Wśród leśnych jezior i bagien,” lies outside the settlement east of Rekowo. It is designated for hiking and cycling through the local forests. The two routes are comparable in length; they differ mainly in their connection to the village and the activities mentioned. Check local trail conditions before your visit.

Nature Trails and Surrounding Landscape
The starting point at the tourist information point anchors the first hiking route in central Rekowo. The second route provides a separate point of reference in the area east of the village and mentions cycling as well as hiking. For planning purposes, you can first decide whether to orient yourself around a starting point in Rekowo or a designated route outside the settlement. Both routes are 8 km long; their uses and locations give them different focuses.
The landscape around the nature trail “Atrakcje przyrodnicze okolic Rekowa i Płotowa” includes a lobelia lake, a kettle bog, and forests, as well as the site of a former settlement. Nature and traces of history thus exist side by side: the lake and bog offer a different focus from the reference to a former settlement site. These landscape features provide a concrete setting for the nature-related themes around Rekowo, although not all of them necessarily lie directly on the trail.
Góra Siemierzycka is also nearby. At 256 m above sea level, it is the highest elevation in the Bytów Lakeland. Its elevation makes it a clearly identifiable regional point of reference. Together, the two nature trails, the lake and bog landscape, and the elevation offer different perspectives on the countryside around Rekowo.
Culture in the Wider Destination of Bytów
In the wider destination of Bytów, historic buildings and collections take center stage. Bytów Castle was built between 1398 and 1405 on a rectangular ground plan and is included in the Route of Gothic Castles established in northern Poland. The West Kashubian Museum is located in the north wing. It presents ethnographic collections as well as temporary exhibitions of contemporary painting, photography, and folk art. Architectural history and museum themes come together here in one place.
St. Catherine’s Church in Bytów offers another historical perspective. It was built between 1847 and 1854 to a design by Schindler, as a three-aisled hall church modeled on Berlin’s St. Matthew’s Church. Its Gothic tower dates from the first half of the 14th century and houses permanent exhibitions on archaeology and history across four levels. The church also has an organ dating from 1854 and two bells from 1820–1821. The different dates give an impression of how various historical layers come together in the building and its fittings.
A historic railway monument and a lake are also among Bytów’s attractions: the railway bridge over the Boruja in Bytów is listed as a historic railway monument. Lake Jeleń is a lobelia lake in the northern part of the town of Bytów and is used mainly for recreation and tourism. If you are planning to focus on nature trails, Rekowo is the relevant thematic point of reference; for castle and church history, collections, or the lake, Bytów serves as the wider destination.
