Cierniki belongs to the Sołectwo Międzybórz, a rural administrative unit. When planning your trip, you will encounter Międzybórz both as the name of this unit and in the names of cycling routes and destinations. The municipal directory dated 25 September 2024 listed a public transport stop in Cierniki. Check the appropriate connection for your intended travel date when planning your specific journey.

Cycling routes in the surrounding area

Three cycling routes run through the Sołectwo Międzybórz, to which Cierniki belongs: Trzmielewo–Jeziernik–Brzezie–Międzybórz, Międzybórz–Dzików–Breńsk–Rzeczenica, and Czarne–Międzybórz–Suszka. The routes can be distinguished by their different sequences of place names and provide an overview of the cycling network at the Sołectwo level.

Another cycling route, almost 7 km long, runs along the shore of Jezioro Szczytno in the same municipality. Very old trees and the lake scenery can be seen along the entire route. Unlike the routes named after places, this one is characterised by its lakeside location, stated length and landscape. This gives cyclists different points of reference for comparison: the sequences of place names on the three routes, or the almost 7 km-long route by the lake.

Nature conservation among wetlands, forests and hiking trails

The “Bocheńskie Błoto” nature reserve near Sporysz is located in the surrounding area. It protects a transitional bog with characteristic wetland plant communities. Its conservation purpose thus links a distinctive landscape type with its typical vegetation.

The “Międzybórz” nature reserve focuses on a different habitat: established in 1961, it protects an old mixed forest of original character, predominantly beech, for scientific and educational purposes. The area covers 1.64 hectares. The predominant beech stand is about 180 years old, accompanied by pines, oaks and Douglas firs. The dates refer to different things: 1961 is the year the reserve was established, while about 180 years refers to the beech stand.

The “Cisy w Czarnem” nature reserve is frequently visited by tourists and school groups. A hiking trail has been opened to pedestrians, maintained and marked on site. If you plan to visit, check the trail’s current status beforehand. Based on their described features, the natural attractions differ clearly: Bocheńskie Błoto is known for its bog and wetland plants, Międzybórz for its beech-dominated mixed forest, and Cisy w Czarnem for its frequently visited area with a hiking trail.

Neo-Gothic church in Międzybórz

In Międzybórz, a nearby village, stands the Neo-Gothic Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, built in 1897. Its style and year of construction give the surrounding area a cultural and historical point of interest alongside its nature reserves and cycling routes. If you would like your trip to Poland to include both landscapes and architecture, the church complements the nature attractions with a historic building whose date is clearly established.
