Gwieździn: Cycling Routes and Historic Traces

Cycling between lakeshores, forests and connected towns

The Rzewnicki Cycling Route is a network of cycle paths along the shore of Lake Szczytno Wielkie. It connects the nearby towns and tourist facilities of Gwieździn, Rzewnica, Rzeczenica and Koprzywnica. This places the focus both on the lakeshore and on links between several named places.

The scenic Gwieździn–Rzeczenica–Koprzywnica cycling route is almost seven kilometers long. This gives you a useful point of reference for planning your day. The Rzewnicki Cycling Route starts in Gwieździn and passes through forest areas close to a lake. Settlement history and architectural styles

The Gwieździn area has been intensively settled since the Neolithic period. The town’s surviving buildings date from the 19th century and were built using half-timbered and log construction. This brings together two distinct periods and themes in its history: the area’s long history of settlement and the architectural traditions of the 19th century.

Half-timbering and log construction describe different building methods. In half-timbering, a wooden frame forms the visible structure; in log construction, logs are stacked on top of one another. This distinction offers a concrete way to appreciate Gwieździn’s architecture rather than viewing its historic buildings as a single, uniform group.

Archaeological traces and destinations at Lake Krępsko

Fortified settlements have been discovered near Gwieździn: one right by the village and another on a peninsula in Lake Krępsko. They are among the best-preserved examples of early Polish culture in the Powiat człuchowski district. These archaeological sites add another dimension to the town’s history: they represent early Polish culture in the surrounding area, while the 19th-century buildings are examples of surviving architecture in the town itself.

On the opposite side of Gwieździn, on Lake Krępsko, there is a canoe landing and an unsupervised bathing area.
