Mikoszewo can be explored from several perspectives: as a place at the artificial mouth of the Vistula, with a nature trail and clearly numbered beach access points, and with traces of Żuławy architecture. When choosing where to stay, it helps to distinguish between these topics: river engineering and ferry history tell the story of the waterscape, while the nature trail, wildlife watching and seasonal transport offer different practical points of reference for planning your day.

The Vistula mouth and the ferry basin

Przekop Wisły is an artificial mouth of the Vistula between Świbno and Mikoszewo. It was created between 1891 and 1895 by digging a new riverbed. The basin of the former ferry crossing in Mikoszewo also dates from 1895 and now serves as a small fishing harbour. Here, a major alteration to the river’s course meets a basin that still functions as a harbour.

Nature trail, wildlife and beach access points

The Mewia Łacha nature trail in Mikoszewo is about 850 metres long and leads from Bursztynowa Street along a forest path to beach access point No. 90; eight themed information boards line the route. Its approximate length gives you an idea of this section of the route, while the boards organise the trail by topic.

Near Mikoszewo, the Mewia Łacha Nature Reserve has a designated wildlife-watching trail. With a bit of luck, you may see young seals playing there. The larger eastern part of the reserve lies in the Stegna municipality, near Mikoszewo.

Another named beach location is the sea bathing area at access point No. 88, by the forest car park in Mikoszewo. It extends 100 metres east towards Jantar. Beach access point No. 90 on the nature trail and access point No. 88 are distinct reference points to keep in mind when planning your day.

Żuławy architecture and paved areas

The arcade-front house at 68 Gdańska Street is a historic building from the mid-19th century and an example of typical Żuławy architecture. A different kind of feature is provided by the old paved surfaces and the paved square in the area between the dikes in Mikoszewo, in the area of the ferry crossing over Przekop Wisły. The house’s exact address and the location of the paved areas offer two distinct points of reference for exploring the area’s building history and townscape.
