Ostrowo: Beach, Nature and Kashubian Heritage

Ostrowo can be explored through three themes: a bathing area, the natural landscape around Bielawa and Kashubian heritage. The routes also differ significantly: a nature trail through the nature reserve is five kilometres long, while the blue Nadmorski or Rozewski Trail connects several places. When choosing where to stay, you can therefore weigh up whether you are more interested in a beach-focused stay, nature watching or longer routes.

Location and bathing area

Ostrowo lies beyond the Czarna Wda, which flows parallel to the sea coast. The village is located on the hill known as Kępa Ostrowska. Nature around Bielawa

A five-kilometre nature trail through Bielawa Nature Reserve begins at the Ostrowo Forestry District. A path also leads from the centre of Ostrowo to the protected area. Bielawa is known as a habitat for cranes and a popular spot for birdwatchers. Numerous plant, bird and animal species can be observed particularly well along the nature trail from May to October. During bird migration, flocks of cranes numbering up to several dozen gather there; naturally, the number of birds you can see may vary.

A wooden observation tower in the forest at Ostrowo offers a different view of the landscape. It stands level with the cemetery and overlooks the Bielawskie Błota and the Puck Land. In the western part of Kępa Ostrowska, a natural spring rises beside the meadow path from Ostrowo to Karwia. Both are local features that describe different aspects of the landscape.

Routes for longer excursions

The blue Nadmorski or Rozewski Trail is 28.1 kilometres long and runs through Krokowa, Ostrowo, Jastrzębia Góra, Rozewie and Władysławowo. The section between Ostrowo and Jastrzębia Góra runs along the edge of the Czarna Wda valley. By comparison, the five-kilometre Bielawa nature trail is a shorter route focused specifically on the nature reserve. These details can help you take the different route lengths and courses into account when planning.

The cycling network also extends beyond the village: it is 30 kilometres long and passes through seven localities, including Ostrowo. The cycle routes through Ostrowo are connecting sections of route R10 in the international EuroVelo 10/13 network. As local infrastructure can change, check the current route before setting out on a particular cycling trip.

A kayaking route starts in Kłanino and ends in Ostrowo. Before planning a specific trip, check whether the route is usable.

Kashubian history and exhibitions

A historic cottage dating from the 18th century stands in Ostrowo. Another place to explore regional history is the Zagroda Kaszubska at 35 Zabytkowa Street. It is a branch of the Muzeum Ziemi Puckiej im. Floriana Ceynowy.

The Pszczelarstwo Pomorskie exhibition at the Zagroda Kaszubska presents the history of beekeeping and the work carried out in an apiary, and displays beekeeping equipment. There is also the Bielawa open-air exhibition about the formation and significance of the nature reserve. These are two distinct themes: working with bees and the history of a protected area.
