Archaeology, villas and distinctive architecture

Grodzisko in Sopot is an open-air archaeological museum. On a hill stands a reconstructed early medieval fortified settlement; reconstructed huts, a gate and a partially rebuilt section of palisade are also on display. A modern exhibition pavilion stands by the pond. It houses Sopot’s oldest archaeological finds. The Muzeum Sopotu is housed in the listed Claaszen Villa, built in 1904. Another historic villa is home to the Goyki 3 Art Inkubator: the cultural institution is located in the restored villa of Fryderyk Wilhelm Jüncke, built in 1894 at ul. Jakuba Goyki 3. Dworek Sierakowskich is also among the oldest buildings in Sopot. The building houses a small café with an artistic atmosphere.

In contrast to the historic buildings is the Krzywy Domek. The building is considered almost a landmark of Sopot and is an outstanding example of daring contemporary architecture. Its form draws on the drawings of Jan Marcin Szancer and Per Dahlberg. The Krzywy Domek is also home to the Muzeum Iluzji Sopot, an interactive attraction with more than 20 installations. This place thus combines architecture with another distinctly interactive experience.

For culture lovers, the Opera Leśna is another notable venue: the forest amphitheatre is known for its remarkable acoustics and has a history spanning more than a century. The cultural venues differ considerably, ranging from archaeological reconstructions and villas to contemporary architecture and the amphitheatre.

Promenade, pier and views

Bohaterów Monte Cassino Street, locally known as “Monciak,” is closed to car traffic and leads directly to the Sopot Pier. The wooden pier is 511.5 metres long and is described as the longest wooden pier in Europe. At its end is a marina with space for 103 boats. The length of the pier and the marina at its end are useful points of reference when planning your day in this part of Sopot.

The lighthouse complex also offers a viewpoint, located at the top of the tower. For another aspect of the local offering, visit the stalls at Przystań Rybacka, where fresh and smoked fish are available. Exploring Sopot thus includes both notable buildings and views, as well as a direct connection to fish as a regional food.

Leisure activities for different interests

If you would like to consider a range of leisure ideas when planning your trip, Sopot has several distinct options. The mini golf course on Sopockie Błonia has 20 holes and is generally open to residents and tourists. Kolejowy Odjazd offers a miniature railway route of more than 1,000 metres in the green heart of the city. Interactive exhibits at the Muzeum Iluzji Mirage include a levitation chair, a hypnosis room and the Voltex Tunnel. These activities vary in format, so you can decide which are relevant to your plans based on the interests of your travel group.

The Sopot Hippodrome hosts international equestrian events, including the CSIO**** Official International Show Jumping Competitions, as well as races and other events, including those unrelated to equestrian sports. If you are interested in equestrian sports, you can make this venue a focus of your trip.

At 110 metres above sea level, Łysa Góra is the highest elevation in Sopot. On the edge of Trójmiejski Park Krajobrazowy, there is a tow lift just under 300 metres long. The figures for the elevation and lift give a more precise description of this location without equating it with the attractions in the city centre.
