Koleczkowo: Trails by the Stream and Partisan History
Accommodation in Koleczkowo
Koleczkowo combines stream and forest landscapes with the memory of Kashubian partisan history. The ZagĂłrska Struga, a reconstructed partisan bunker and a monument each offer a different perspective. The Daniel Chodowiecki hiking and riding trail also passes through the village; its total length is 283 km. When planning your trip, you can therefore consider nature and history as two distinct interests that are both represented in the village.
Trails between the stream, meadows and forest
The Zagórska Struga flows through Koleczkowo. In the northern part of the village, Koleczkowski Młyn lies on the banks of the stream. Nearby, the black Zagórska Struga trail runs by the site of the former mill. This brings together three specific local features: the stream, the former mill site and the northern part of the village. The stream’s name gives the trail its theme, while Koleczkowski Młyn locates this section within Koleczkowo.
After crossing the road between Koleczkowo and Chylonia, the Zagórska Struga trail follows the valley of the stream of the same name: across meadows, through groves and along the edge of the forest. This sequence brings the trail’s landscape character to life. Most of Koleczkowo’s forested areas lie in the buffer zone of Trójmiejski Landscape Park. This adds a regional context to the description of the forest landscape.
One practical detail concerns the section near Koleczkowski Młyn: in 2021, the trail was moved from the forest edge to Młyńska Street because the former section crossed private property. For practical route guidance, follow the signs on site. The date indicates when the change took place; the signs provide specific directions when you are there.
Two trails on different scales
The Daniel Chodowiecki hiking and riding trail also passes through Koleczkowo and is 283 km long in total. The ZagĂłrska Struga trail focuses on its local route and landscape; for the Daniel Chodowiecki trail, the figure refers to the entire route, not just the section through Koleczkowo. This distinguishes local trail features from the length of a route that covers a wider area. When choosing, it is helpful to consider whether you want to focus on the route by the stream and mill or on the larger-scale trail.
Partisan history and local culture
A monument in Koleczkowo commemorates the Kashubian Partisans’ battles against Hitler’s forces as members of the Secret Organization Gryf Pomorski. A partisan bunker has been reconstructed in a grove next to the school. The village thus has two distinct points of reference for its partisan history: the monument, which explicitly commemorates the fighting, and the reconstructed bunker as a physical structure. Each offers a different perspective from the trails by the stream and through the forest.
The regional ensemble “Koleczkowianie” is also part of the village’s more recent cultural history. It was active in Koleczkowo between 2012 and 2019. Together with the sites of remembrance, it adds a cultural dimension to the picture of the village, with a clearly defined time period.
