Luzino brings together outdoor activities, botanical diversity, and places with a history spanning several eras. When planning your visit, you can focus on different highlights: the trails of the Ścieżka Zdrowia, the arboretum and central park, or the hillfort and the town’s historic buildings. You can choose your walk more specifically by trail length and name.
Walking and Running Trails in Luzino
The Ścieżka Zdrowia has a 1.9-kilometre pine trail and a 3.4-kilometre beech trail. Both are intended for walking and running. You can choose between them based on their stated lengths and names. Several pieces of equipment for general exercise complement the trails. The entrance is on ul. Wilczka, with a public car park directly beside it.
There is also a viewpoint in the vicinity of the destination, two kilometres from the entrance to the Ścieżka Zdrowia. From there, the view extends across Charwatynia to Strzebielino. This viewpoint is a separate point of reference in addition to the information about the two trails. If you include it in your plans, keep its distance from the entrance in mind as a specific reference point.
Arboretum and Park
The arboretum in Luzino features more than 140 rare tree and shrub species and varieties. It also has paths, lawns and benches, as well as a shelter and a prepared fire pit. Admission is free; check the access conditions before your visit. Unlike the Ścieżka Zdrowia, the focus here is not on the length of two trails, but on the variety of plants and the site’s facilities.
In the centre of Luzino is the Prof. Gerard Labuda Park. Its facilities include a pond, a fountain, walking paths and a playground. Several specific park features, including a playground, are therefore located together in the town centre. The arboretum and the park have different described focuses: the former is a collection of trees and shrubs, while the latter is a centrally located park with a range of facilities.
History and Culture in Luzino
The early medieval hillfort site, dating from the 9th century, is on ul. Długa, beyond the footbridge over the Bolszewka. The Church of St. Lawrence (św. Wawrzyńca) dates from 1740. Its oldest feature is a medieval stone holy-water stoup from the previous wooden church; its furnishings and entrance gate also date from the Baroque period. The hillfort and the church thus represent different historical periods.
The Leona Roppla Public Library (Gminna Biblioteka Publiczna im. Leona Roppla) is housed in a former Protestant church that was in use from 1895 to 1945. The Regional Chamber (Izba Regionalna) offers another way to explore the region’s history and culture: it displays cultural artefacts relating to history, archaeology, ethnography and art. Its collections include a material and spiritual collection and a forestry and natural history collection; agricultural machinery is displayed in an outdoor collection.
The Regional Chamber is open on Wednesdays from 10:00 to 18:00; check the opening hours before your visit. Together with the historic church building, the hillfort site and the Church of St. Lawrence (św. Wawrzyńca), it gives you a choice of cultural sites and historical topics in Luzino. You can combine these with the trails or green spaces during your stay, depending on whether you want to focus on outdoor activities, plants or history.
