Town Hall, Church and Old Town
Strumień’s town hall was built around 1628 and is the oldest surviving town hall building in the Silesian Voivodeship. The Baroque Roman Catholic church represents a later building phase: it was built in 1790, and its tower was added in 1792. These dates distinguish the construction of the church from the later addition of the tower, providing specific chronological points of reference for the town’s history.
In the Old Town, the eastern side of the market square is lined with two-storey townhouses. Their mansard roofs and gable ends aligned parallel to the street define this frontage. This focuses the architectural view on a clearly described row of houses: their height, roof shape and orientation can be considered together, rather than seeing the Old Town only through individual buildings.
Production History and Art
The former Kaflarnia in Strumień is a listed monument. Its production history began during the interwar period with the manufacture of tiles. Later, clothing was made there, followed by grave candles until the late 1990s. This sequence, from tiles to clothing to grave candles, makes the different phases of its use easy to follow.
Galeria Pod Ratuszem is located in renovated cellars beneath the town hall in Strumień. Exhibitions, exhibition openings and gatherings take place there. The gallery showcases work by local cultural practitioners as well as artists from abroad. Two Cycling Routes, Different Ways to Find Your Way
The international R4 cycling route runs along Podwale Street in Strumień and heads towards Pszczyna or Jastrzębie-Zdrój. The red cycling route 251, by contrast, starts at the market square and runs via Chybie and Rudzica to Jaworze, at the foot of the Silesian Beskids. These details give you different reference points: for the R4, its course along Podwale Street and the directions listed; for Route 251, its starting point at the market square and the sequence of named places along the way to the destination.
