Discover Mysłowice: museums, parks and trails

Mysłowice offers a variety of reasons to stay: at Słupna Park, you can rent and use kayaks and pedal boats, while museums and historic sites put culture and urban history in the spotlight. Walks and cycling tours are also among the options. You can therefore choose which side of the town you would like to get to know better based on your interests.

Water and greenery in the parks

Kayaks and pedal boats are available to rent and use at Słupna Park. Promenada offers something different: it stretches along the Czarna Przemsza and includes wet meadows and ponds that provide a habitat for waterbirds. These include coots, mallards and little grebes. Those interested in waterways and birdlife will find specific natural features here, while Słupna offers an opportunity to get active on the water with its boating activities.

Zamkowy Park adds the character of a historic landscaped park to these impressions. Protected trees considered natural monuments stand alongside the remains of a former manor estate. Promenada and Zamkowy Park thus differ in what makes each distinctive: wet meadows, ponds and waterbirds define the former, while historic park design and traces of the manor estate characterize the latter.

Museums offering different perspectives

The Centralne Muzeum Pożarnictwa has more than 4,000 exhibits. Its collection includes historic firefighting equipment, fire engines, horse-drawn and hand-operated fire pumps, as well as firefighters’ uniforms and equipment. This range makes the museum a destination for anyone interested in the history of firefighting and its equipment: alongside vehicles and pumps, the collection also includes work clothes and other items of equipment.

The Muzeum Miasta Mysłowice explores further topics. Its exhibitions cover archaeology, ethnography, 20th-century history, industry and sport. The museum organizes tours and museum lessons for preschool groups; reservations are requested. One of the lessons focuses on Trójkąt Trzech Cesarzy. It presents this place as a versatile destination and as an international centre of cross-border traffic at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

A historic building in Promenada Park

The Przewiązka in Promenada Park also connects a historic site with the history of travel: this historic building dates from 1907 and served as a passage between an emigrant station and the railway station. This former function offers a different way to explore the town’s history than the museum collections. Together with exhibitions on industry, archaeology and the 20th century, it offers visitors several specific topics around which to plan a cultural itinerary.

Routes for cycling and walking

For a cycling tour, the route “Rowerowe szlaki Mysłowic (Koleją i Rowerem)” starts at Mysłowice railway station. Koleje Śląskie trains on the S31 line between Katowice and Oświęcim stop there. Check the current timetable before travelling. A cycle path also starts in Słupna Park, near the Centralne Muzeum Pożarnictwa.

On foot, the red “Mariana Kantora-Mirskiego” hiking trail runs from Janina Barbara via Giszowiec, the Dolina Murckowska, Wesoła Fala in Wesoła, Morgi and Szyb Stanisława, as well as the “Słupna” outdoor swimming pool, to Mysłowice.
