Baranów Sandomierski can be explored through two distinctive features: the Renaissance castle with its exhibitions, and the routes that pass through the town. The castle is commonly called “Mały Wawel” (“Little Wawel”). There is also a walking trail and the “Szlak Wisły” water route. Castle and exhibitions
The Renaissance castle is surrounded by a 14-hectare park with a golf course. The castle also houses a museum of 16th- and 17th-century interiors. It presents the history of the castle and its owners. The architecture and museum thus offer different ways to explore the history of the building.
An exhibition in the castle museum’s hall complements these themes: “Historia ludzi i miejsc zapisana w obrazach” features a tabletop model of an achromatic stereoscope made by Smith, Beck & Beck in the mid-19th century. The Archaeological Hall displays a boat that is among the longest of its kind in Poland and Europe. It lay on the bed of the Vistula for centuries and came to the castle under unusual circumstances. It is believed to date from the Middle Ages. This object connects the exhibition with the history of the Vistula, while the stereoscope focuses on a different object and a different era.
The castle’s visitor offerings also include historical scenes and a historical costume room. Visitors can also see an armory of knights’ armor with a torture chamber. In the wider area around Baranów, Lake Tarnobrzeg was created on the site of the former mine belonging to the Zakłady Przetwórstwa Siarki “Siarkopol.” It covers almost 500 hectares.
