The Museum and Cultural Perspectives
The Missionary and Ethnographic Museum is housed in the building of the monastery and missionary seminary of the Society of the Divine Word. The ethnographic and natural history exhibits, grouped by theme, include items from China, Japan, New Guinea, Africa, Indonesia, India and South America. The exhibition “Być misjonarzem” explores the history and guiding principles of the Society of the Divine Word. “Tacy sami w świecie różnorodności kulturowej” presents objects from different continents and cultures. The exhibitions offer different perspectives: one focuses on a missionary society, while the other explores cultural diversity through objects.
Churches, the Town Hall and Remembrance
The present-day Neo-Gothic Church of St Peter and Paul was consecrated by Bishop Andrzej Thiel in 1897. The town hall in the old town of Mehlsack (Pieniężno) dates from the second half of the 14th century. Reconstruction of the old town and town hall began in the 1980s. These buildings show the distinction between their medieval origins and a much later phase of reconstruction.
The ruins of the former Protestant church offer another glimpse into the past. They have been designed as an open-air place of remembrance and historical education, with the outline of the foundations made visible.
