The blue-marked cycling route runs via Szczecinowo and Gawliki Małe to Kałtki and is about 31 km long. Church and Masurian architectural history
Stare Juchy’s historic church contains several works whose dates are known precisely: an altar from 1501, a pulpit from 1574 and a Gothic triptych from 1591. The distinction between the dates is important: the original model and the reconstruction of the present-day building belong to different periods.
Erratic boulder, lakes and a piece of railway history
The protected erratic boulder is made of grey granite and measures 4.5 m long, 2.25 m wide and 10.61 m in circumference. It is one of the largest erratic boulders in Masuria. According to legend, it was once an altar used for sacrifices by the Prussians. The yellow hiking trail, 1 km long, leads from Stare Juchy to an erratic boulder; the legend and measurements give this natural monument its own historical and geological context, while making clear that the story should not be mistaken for verified history.
At the edge of the village, the Młyńska Struga canal connects Lakes Rekąty and Jędzelewo. Another notable object is the historic Polish OL-49 class steam locomotive at the railway station. It was built in 1952. When approaching from the direction of Ełk, it stands about 200 m before the station building, on the left-hand side of the tracks. The approximate distance and stated direction of approach make the locomotive’s location easy to identify.
