Dywity combines marked cycling routes with paths along Lake Jezioro Dywickie, a Neo-Gothic church and a bridge with a history of its own. When planning your trip, you can make different aspects your focus, such as outdoor activity, the lake or culture.
Cycling Routes and Lakeside Paths
The marked blue cycling route is 32 km long. From Dywity, it leads via Różnowo, Dąbrówka Wielka, Nowe Włóki, Gradki, Frączki, Tuławki, Gady, Lake Wadąg and Dągi back to Dywity. The marked yellow cycling route is 20 km long and runs via Redykajny, Wilimowo, Kajny, Barkweda, Brąswałd and Ługwałd back to its starting point. Both routes begin and end in Dywity; the yellow route is 12 km shorter than the blue one. If you choose a tour based on its stated length, you can take this difference into account directly. The places listed also give you a concrete overview of each route.
A walking and cycling path also runs around Lake Jezioro Dywickie. The lakeside recreation area has a landscaped beach and an elevated observation platform clad in wood, overlooking the water. These are additional local routes and places to spend time that you can include in your travel plans independently of the two marked cycling routes. The educational and tourist trail about the Dywity airships starts at the access road from ul. Grzybowa.
Church and Local History
The Neo-Gothic Church of the Holy Apostles Simon and Jude Thaddaeus in Dywity is 40 m long, 17 m wide and 19 m high. It has eight granite pillars supporting seven sculptures of apostles. Its furnishings also include an eighteen-stop organ made by the Bruno Goebel company of Orneta. Its sound can still be heard today. The bridge over the Wadąg near Dywity has also had a turbulent history. It was built in 1859. After this first bridge was destroyed shortly thereafter, a new crossing was completed in 1862 and traffic on the road resumed. The bridge over the Wadąg at the entrance to Dywity also served as a filming location for a chase scene in the episode Double Nelson of the Polish television series More Than Life at Stake. Another trace of history lies in the vicinity of Dywity: an airship port opened there in 1914.
Village Market and Brewing Culture
A village market is held on Saturdays in the centre of Dywity, in the modernised old Stodoła. Food from farmers and local producers is on offer there. Święto Warmińskiego Piwowara adds another connection to local event culture: the final of the Warmiński Konkurs Piw Domowych takes place during this festival. Hobby brewers from all over Poland submit several dozen home-brewed beers each year. Professional judges from the Polish Association of Home Brewers assess the entries. The market and the competition therefore offer different highlights: one focuses on food from local producers, while the other showcases craft beers from all over Poland.
