A church with several building phases
The Church of St. Nicholas and St. John the Evangelist was built towards the end of the 15th century from fieldstone and brick. From 1911 to 1913, a new three-nave church building was added based on a design by Fritz Heitmann of Königsberg. These two periods mark distinct building phases: the original construction in the late Middle Ages was followed by an extension in the early 20th century. Agricultural technology heritage
The private Dramiński Museum of Agricultural Machinery in Szabruk has more than 200 historic machines. The Foundation for the Protection of the Agricultural Technology Heritage of Warmia and Masuria established a collection of agricultural machinery through the museum to preserve it from destruction for future generations. The church represents architectural development, while the museum preserves agricultural technology—two different ways of exploring local history.
Lake district and cycle route
Lakes Wulpińskie and Świętajno are located near Szabruk. The area is known for its hilly, glacially shaped landscape, with lakes, small bodies of water and wooded field margins. Here, the focus is not on a single building, but on the interplay of rolling terrain, water and wooded field margins.
The red cycle route in the Gietrzwałd municipality passes through Gronity, Naterki, Sząbruk and Unieszewo. It is well signposted in both directions within the municipality; sections can be ridden from Olsztyn, Stare Jabłonki or Unieszewo. The signage in both directions helps you choose which way to ride, while the listed starting points help you select a section. The route thus offers a different planning option from visiting the church: it passes through several places, whereas the building’s history can be traced at a single site.
