Drawno brings together several themes for a trip to Poland: the town lake, hiking trails, canoeing and traces of history. Drawno’s town lake is also called Adamowo. The town’s attractions include artesian wells. For travellers who like to alternate between activities on the water and cultural history during their stay, the town offers plenty to explore.

Hiking around Lake Adamowo

The yellow P10 hiking trail forms an 8.2-kilometre loop around Drawno’s town lake, also known as Adamowo. The lake is the focal point of this clearly defined circular route. Check current trail conditions locally. Another route description starts at the hiking trail junction by Drawno’s market square and follows ul. Pomorska towards Święciechów, together with the yellow P10. This option focuses on the starting point and direction. The loop has a set length around Adamowo; for the route from the market square, the street and destination provide the directions.

Canoe trip and launch points

The 8.7-kilometre canoe section from Drawno to the “Barnimie” bivouac site is rated as difficult; river conditions may vary. The 8.2-kilometre hiking loop and the 8.7-kilometre stretch on the water are different types of trips; the canoe route also has a difficulty rating to consider. Recommended launch points for a canoe trip from Drawno include the Drawieński National Park landing stage and the PTTK water station near the road bridge over the channel between Lakes Grażyna and Dubie. There are watersports equipment rental outlets in Drawno. Check locally in advance whether rental is available, and check current conditions at the launch points and on the river.

Historical traces in Drawno

Around the 10th century, Drawno’s original inhabitants built a fortified settlement on Zamkowy Hill. The artesian wells date from the 17th and 19th centuries, providing a later point of reference. Drawno’s historic remains also include the ruins of Wedel Castle. The Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help is one of the town’s historic buildings. The early fortified settlement, the ruins and the church represent different chapters in the town’s built history. Buildings belonging to the former “Etruria” terracotta factory stand on Choszczeńska Street and remain as traces of the former factory. Garden gnomes were manufactured there on an industrial scale. The former production site adds an industrial-history dimension to the castle and church connections.

For trip planning, Drawno can also be understood through these contrasts: the town lake is at the centre of a circular hike, while the water route is a canoe section rated as difficult, ending at Barnimie. The historical traces offer another perspective on the town.
