Riverside Setting and Getting There

The confluence of the Moszczenica and Wieprza rivers provides a clear reference point for finding your way around. Road and rail are also important when planning your journey: National Road 6 runs through Sławno and connects Szczecin with Gdańsk. Check the road route before setting out. The railway station is in the western part of the town and was built in the 1860s. Its construction period also links the rail journey to the town’s history. Churches from Different Centuries

The Mariacki Church in Sławno was built between 1326 and 1364, funded by Duchess Zofia, the wife of Barnim IV. It represents a chapter of medieval architecture that can be dated precisely. The church is currently in use and administered by the Catholic parish of pw. W.N.M.P. If you plan to visit, it is best to check visiting arrangements in advance.

A much later chapter is the Church of St. Anthony of Padua. It was built between 1925 and 1928 to plans by Sławno architect Fridrich Suhr, on the initiative of Father Franciszek Niering, the first priest of the Catholic curacy. The church houses a Renaissance triptych from the 16th century, attributed to the workshop of Frankfurt sculptor Schnitzer. It depicts five scenes from the life of the Mother of God. Together, the two churches offer distinct windows into different periods: one takes you back to the 14th century, the other to the architectural history of 1925–1928.

Regional History and Remembrance

The Izba Muzealna was established in the cultural center building at 2 Cieszkowskiego Street. Its purpose was to promote regional history and commemorate the 700th anniversary of the granting of town rights. The Sławno Lapidarium offers another way to explore the past: it includes surviving graves from before 1945 and is considered evidence of the continuity of the cultural heritage of the Sławno region. Together, these subjects present two different perspectives on history—the development of the town and the memory of its regional heritage.

Cultural Routes, Cycling Paths and Events

The European Route of Brick Gothic passes through Sławno, linking countries, regions, towns, cultures and people through a shared architectural language. The Pomeranian Way of St. James and a blue hiking trail also run through the town. For travelers interested in architecture, this cultural route is complemented by two named hiking routes. Almost three kilometers of cycling paths encircle the town; route conditions may change, so it is advisable to check the latest information before setting off.

Recurring events are also part of Sławno’s cultural character. The town holds annual events on fixed dates, including the Festival of Brass Bands, a regional event celebrating the town’s cultural heritage.
