Nature Reserve and Landscape
The “Diabelskie Pustacie” nature reserve covers a total of 932.04 hectares. Within the Borne Sulinowo administrative district, 637.63 hectares belong to the Nadleśnictwo Borne Sulinowo forest district. The reserve lies within the “Diabelskie Pustacie” Natura 2000 protected area. The two area figures refer to different things: 932.04 hectares is the total area of the reserve, while 637.63 hectares is the part of the forest district within the administrative district.
Cycling Routes and Nature Trail
The blue “Kraina Odwróconego Krzyża” cycling route starts and ends at a crossroads in Borne Sulinowo. Its middle section runs through two glacial valleys that meet at right angles and contain five lakes; together, the valleys form the shape of an inverted cross. The black “Kraina małych jezior” cycling route offers a different landscape: it passes through pine forest with small glacial lakes and runs between the villages of Rakowo, Komorze, Okole, Uniemino and Strzeszyn. This cycling route also starts and ends at a crossroads in Borne Sulinowo. The two landscapes can therefore be distinguished: right-angled valleys with five lakes on the blue route, and pine forest with small lakes on the black route.
A nature trail about 9.1 kilometres long leads from the area around the former Soviet cemetery in Borne Sulinowo to a vehicle rest area by Lake Rymierzewo. It can be explored on foot or by bicycle. Local History and Event
Borne Sulinowo was established as a rear base and barracks for the military training area and housed the Wehrmacht artillery school.
