Radlin can be explored through two connected perspectives: local history and landscape. Maria Skłodowska-Curie spent part of her childhood here; her grandparents also lived in Radlin. The town’s highest point is Zdobiec Hill, at 319 metres above sea level. Other notable features include the former wool-processing industry and the KGW “Radlinianki” rural women’s association. If you choose a travel destination based on its specific biographical and local connections, Radlin offers several points of interest—from family history and tradition to topography.

History between biography and livelihood

The connection to Maria Skłodowska-Curie is specific: she spent part of her childhood in Radlin, and her grandparents lived there. Another historical thread leads to the former wool-processing industry. Residents processed wool to earn a living on the poor, infertile soil. The town’s history therefore brings together personal connections and a way of making a living shaped by local conditions. Looking at the childhood of the future scientist and the former wool-processing work offers two different perspectives on Radlin’s past.

The former forest railway adds to this picture. In the 1930s, a line ran through Radlin, connecting Kielce with Złota Woda near Łagów. It transported timber from the surrounding forests to Kielce. This historical railway connection adds the transport of local timber to the economic perspective offered by wool processing.

Association and community life

The KGW “Radlinianki” rural women’s association began its work in Radlin in October 2013. It is dedicated to preserving old customs and preparing traditional dishes. The association organizes picnics and celebrations for the local and municipal community. Together with Radlin Primary School, it holds evenings marking November 11, events for Children’s Day, and Easter and Christmas workshops. The association’s work thus brings traditional food and customs together with a range of community activities throughout the year.

Hilly landscape and traces of land use

Radlin has small hills made of limestone, dolomite and sandstone. At 319 metres above sea level, Zdobiec is the town’s highest point. These details give the landscape a specific scale: alongside the small hills, there is a clearly identified highest point. There are also deposits of natural carbonate raw materials in the area around Radlin and Zdobiec Hill. Their extraction has left visible excavations and spoil heaps in the landscape. The rock types that make up the hills and the traces left by mining thus offer two different perspectives on the surrounding area.

Everyday amenities

Since 2014, Radlin has had a community centre equipped with essential facilities. An inclusive playground, a sports field and an outdoor fitness area are located nearby. These facilities provide residents with places to relax and meet. Together with the rural women’s association’s community activities, they offer a concrete glimpse into the town’s social and recreational life.
