Koszuty: Manor House, Exhibition and Landscape Park
Accommodation in Koszuty
Koszuty has a clear cultural focus: Dwór w Koszutach, a manor house in a small landscape park. The complex combines a half-timbered structure, probably built shortly after 1750, with reconstructed living rooms and an exhibition of historic objects. This offers different ways to explore the history of the place as you plan your trip: its construction, room layout and classification as a Baroque listed building.
Construction and Baroque classification
The manor house was probably built shortly after 1750 as a half-timbered structure made of larch wood and clay on an oak sill. Parts of the building are made of brick masonry. The information about the materials makes the construction more specific than a purely stylistic label: timber framing, wood, clay, oak and brick are all part of the described structure. The dating remains an assumption and should therefore be understood as probable.
The building’s present-day classification also takes into account both its surviving features and the changes made to it. The room layout has been preserved, as have some decorative elements on the façade. Despite later alterations, the manor house is therefore classified as a Baroque listed building. Those interested in historic architecture can distinguish between two aspects: the features that have survived to this day and the changes added over time. This makes the building history of the Dwór a subject in its own right, alongside the displayed collection.
Reconstructed living rooms and historic exhibits
Six rooms have been reconstructed in Dwór w Koszutach: the dining room, guest room and salon, as well as the lady of the house’s room, the master of the house’s room and the children’s room. The different names give the sequence of rooms a clear structure. Shared spaces sit alongside rooms for individual members of the household; the children’s room adds a separate area to this contrast. Those interested in historic domestic interiors will find not just an abstract description of the manor house, but an exhibition organized around individual rooms.
The collection consists mainly of furniture, paintings and household objects dating from before the First World War. The children’s room is an explicitly later exception: its exhibits date up to 1939. This distinction in dates helps put the exhibition into context. Most of the objects on display belong to the period before the First World War, while the children’s room covers a longer period. The building’s history and the collection thus emphasize different aspects: one concerns the origins and design of the manor house, the other the objects displayed in its rooms.
Manor house and landscape park
The manor house and park complex in Koszuty was declared a Pomnik Historii (Historic Monument) by decree of the President of the Republic of Poland on 20 April 2018. The designation applies to the complex of manor house and park, not just to the building itself. This distinction helps put Koszuty into context: its cultural focus includes both the building and its connection with the small landscape park.
The park forms the landscape setting for the manor house. Koszuty is therefore especially relevant to your travel plans if you are interested in historic buildings, reconstructed living rooms, and the connection between architecture and a park. These aspects complement one another without requiring a single point of view: you can consider the house’s construction and surviving features separately from its rooms and exhibits, then take the park into account as part of the protected complex.
