Margonin combines lake activities, cycling routes and historic buildings. The town lies in northern Wielkopolska, in hilly terrain beside Lake Margonińskie. If you are planning a stay, you can choose between active hours on the water, a ride along nearby paths and a look at the town’s architectural heritage.

Water sports and time by the lake

A notable feature of Lake Margonińskie is its water-ski lift. The facility was built in 2010 as a four-mast RIXEN system and began operating in 2011. Its main cable is 960 metres long and runs at a height of 10 metres. The lift includes a wake park with several obstacles. These technical details give you a clear idea of the kind of water sports that take centre stage here.

The town beach also offers a range of activities by the water. A complex of water slides and a children’s playground was built there in 2013. The lakeside beach is wide and has numerous jetties. The bathing area is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00 during the summer season, with qualified lifeguards on duty at the beach. Check the opening hours before you arrive if you would like to plan your visit around them.

Explore the paths and routes

Margonin is connected to Młynary, Lipiny, Próchnowo and Studźce by modern, safe footpaths and cycle paths. One specific route option is the Margonin–Studźce footpath and cycle path, in the direction of Chodzież. It is 3,000 metres long in total: 2,200 metres run along a forest path, and 800 metres are paved with concrete blocks. This breakdown can help you choose a route if you want to take its length and surface into account.

This gives you two different ways to spend time by the lake and in the surrounding landscape: water sports at a purpose-built facility, or getting active on paths whose route and surface are described in more detail. The network of paths connects Margonin with the places mentioned above; as a specific route option, the footpath and cycle path leads to Studźce in the direction of Chodzież.

Church, palace and park

The complex of religious buildings that includes St. Wojciech’s Church comprises a bell tower with gates and a churchyard enclosed by a stone wall. The rectory and its garden lie to the east. The church’s exterior is Late Baroque and dates to a 1753 renovation. Inside, fittings from the second half of the 18th century have been preserved: three altars, a pulpit and Rococo confessionals. There are also two paintings with their own dates: a Madonna and Child from 1600 and a painting of the Crucified Christ from 1680.

Another historic building is the Neo-Gothic palace of the von Schwichow family. It was built between 1842 and 1852 on the site of the former family seat of the Skórzewskis. The park in Margonin was laid out in 1788 by Fryderyk Skórzewski and contains a memorial stone to the creator of the Polish national anthem. The church, palace and park offer different insights into the town’s architectural and local history: from the religious complex to Neo-Gothic architecture and the landscaped park.
