History
Szamoty was established in 1740. The settlement was initially called Holendry Szamocińskie or Przespolewem. After 1870, Szamoty bore the German name Freundsthal.
Historical agriculture in Szamoty included sheep farming; the wool was supplied to the weaving workshops in Szamocin.
Nature
In the Szamocin area, the “Cygańskie Doły” consist of three glacial lakes connected by ditches. Their steep slopes are covered with mixed forests.

The R-8 “Jaktorowo” cycle route passes through Szamoty. It is signposted according to PTTK standards.
The approximately 20-kilometre-long “Przyroda i człowiek” cycle route passes through forests, parks and avenues, and showcases historic buildings, memorials, sacred and secular structures, as well as natural monuments in the wider Szamocin area.
