Mikołajewo: Cycling Route, the Wełna River and Village History
Accommodation in Mikołajewo
Mikołajewo brings together several points of interest to consider when planning your trip: a signposted cycling route, its location on the Wełna and the history of the village. There are also landmarks to help walkers find their way, as well as specific facilities in the village centre. This can help you decide whether to focus your stay on a cycling route, a section of a trail or the village itself.

Cycling through Mikołajewo
A signposted cycling route in the Wągrowiec municipality runs from Wągrowiec through Bobrowniki, Rudnicze, Potulice, Runowo, Jakubowo, Mikołajewo and Wiatrowiec, before returning to Wągrowiec. The route is listed as 35 km long. Mikołajewo is therefore part of a route connecting several places; the stated length gives you a concrete point of reference when assessing the trip. How you divide the tour over time depends on your own plans.
The Wągrowiec municipality also has signposted cycling routes through areas that are attractive for their scenery, history and recreational opportunities. This is a useful framework for choosing your trip: the 35 km route gives a specific distance, while the other cycling routes cater to different interests. If cycling is part of your travel plans, you can think of Mikołajewo as one of the stops on this tour rather than viewing it separately from the full route.
The banks of the Wełna, a walking trail and village history
Mikołajewo was established on the right bank of the Wełna. The distance is also useful for finding your way along a marked walking trail: the edge of the village is at kilometre 102.9, between Lake Wiatrowskie and Pruśce. This position places Mikołajewo along the trail. It offers a second perspective on the area alongside the cycling route, without implying that the two routes are the same.
The village’s development also has a clear date: in 1921, Mikołajewo became an independent village. This milestone is part of the local history and gives the name a historical context beyond today’s cycling and walking trails. If you take a place’s history into account when planning your trip, as well as its activities, this offers a clear point of interest.
Facilities in the village centre
In 2016, a barbecue shelter, an outdoor grill and picnic tables with benches were added in the village centre. Check the condition of the facilities before visiting. The project helped create a place in the village centre for gathering and relaxation, as well as for organising outdoor events.
More to consider when planning your trip
There are private fishing waters in Mikołajewo. If fishing is part of your plans, bear in mind when choosing activities that these waters are private. The village combines this feature with its trails and facilities in the village centre, but these should not be confused with one another.
A school trip visited Alpaki nad Stawem in Mikołajewo. During the trip, direct contact with animals was used for nature education; the group also took part in alpaca therapy to reduce stress.
To help you decide, first choose what you would like to focus on: the 35 km cycling route, finding your way along the marked walking trail, or the village’s history and facilities.
