Antonin brings together a hunting palace with a connection to Chopin and cultural and nature themes around Wydymacz. This gives you several starting points for planning your trip: architecture and music history, a former family chapel, and a nature reserve with an educational trail. Which of these aspects interests you most can determine the focus of your stay in Antonin.

Hunting Palace, Architecture and Chopin

The hunting palace in Antonin was built between 1822 and 1824 for Antoni Henryk Radziwiłł. In the grand Hunting Hall, a central fluted column stands out, decorated with deer heads and antlers. This architectural detail connects the character of the hall with the hunting palace, without requiring you to compare several individual attractions.

The palace also houses the Chopin Music Salon and a museum exhibition dedicated to the composer. This brings architecture and music to the heart of your visit to Antonin in one place. Those interested in Chopin will find a tangible cultural connection here; those chiefly interested in architectural history can focus on the Hunting Hall and the history of the palace.

The former Neo-Romanesque burial chapel of the Radziwiłł family is also part of the town’s history. Today it serves as a branch church of Our Lady of Ostra Brama. Around the chapel are graves containing the remains of family members transferred from the crypt. Its former function and present-day religious use shape the site in different ways.

Landscape and Nature near Antonin

The palace is surrounded by an extensive landscaped park. This offers another perspective on Antonin when planning your visit: alongside the interiors and the history of the house, the designed landscape is also among the town’s defining features.

The Wydymacz Nature Reserve is a distinct natural attraction. It protects, among other species, the European honeysuckle and mezereon. Its central landscape feature is Staw Wydymacz, which covers about 10 hectares. The Przygodzice pond system also includes the Szperek recreational pond in Antonin.

There is an approximately 2-kilometre nature trail in the reserve. It begins and ends at the “Ogrodówka” nature and forestry exhibition room on the grounds of the Antonin Forest District Office. The room houses the permanent exhibition “Spotkanie z lasem” (“Meeting with the Forest”). Its topics range from plant and animal life to the timber industry and nature conservation. The trail and exhibition offer different perspectives: outdoor exploration of the natural area and indoor displays about forests and nature.

Hiking Trail, Equestrian Loop and Festival

Two routes are also associated with Antonin: the red PTTK hiking trail WK – 3666 c runs through the town, as does the Pętla Przygodzicka equestrian loop. If you plan your trip around an activity, you can consider the hiking trail and equestrian loop as two different options.

The cultural calendar includes the International Festival “Chopin w barwach jesieni” (“Chopin in the Colours of Autumn”), which takes place regularly in Antonin. Together with the Chopin Music Salon and exhibition, it gives the town several connections to the composer: a permanent offering in the palace and a recurring festival. If attending the festival is essential to your trip, check the dates in advance. This lets you take cultural highlights and nature attractions into account when choosing when to visit Antonin.
