Kicin combines nature and history trails with a puzzle walk and a wooden church. The activities vary in route and theme: one trail passes through several places, while another is a forest path about 2.7 km long between two points. There is also a themed connection to the church and a quest with tasks. This means you can explore Kicin according to your interests in exercise, nature and history.

Hiking and cycling trails around Kicin

The August Cieszkowski Trail was established in Kicin in 2014. This nature and history hiking and cycling trail passes through Kicin, Wierzenica and Mechowo, as well as along several field and forest paths. It has 17 stops and starts at the Regional Museum in the A. Cieszkowski Primary School in Kicin. This gives you the starting point, the route through three places and the number of stops for planning purposes. The trail offers hiking and cycling as possible ways to travel, but should not be confused with a loop around a single place.

Another route is the Droga Różańcowa. Since 2016, it has run alongside the church in Kicin through the surrounding countryside, connecting Kicin with Wierzenica. This route also leads to both places, but has its own name and a connection to the church. If you are interested in this route, you can consider it as a separate reason for your trip alongside the August Cieszkowski Trail; the two routes should not be combined into a single trail.

Forest trail and stops along the Szlak Niepodległości

The Szlak Niepodległości is a forest trail between Kicin and Dziewicza Góra. It is about 2.7 km long. Along the trail are 14 crosses, forming the so-called “Droga Krzyżowa” (Stations of the Cross), as well as 17 information and wayfinding signs. The trail thus combines its route through the forest with religious symbols and information signs.

Wooden church and puzzle walk

The wooden Church of St. Joseph in Kicin was built in 1749–1751, funded by Józef Tadeusz Kierski, Bishop of Poznań. It is also on the Szlak Kościołów Drewnianych around Puszcza Zielonka. If you are interested in wooden churches and their history, this is a clearly identifiable cultural landmark. The dates refer to the construction of the church.

The quest “Kicin – dobrze, błogo i błękitnie” offers another way to explore Kicin. It starts at the entrance to the primary school on Gwarna Street. During the walk, participants solve tasks and riddles that lead to a treasure chest containing a stamp. This sets the quest apart from the trails described above through its tasks and destination. If you would like to include this way of exploring in your trip, it has a specific starting point and can be planned as an activity in its own right.

Getting here and your stay

Kicin can be reached by bus routes 321 and 323 from Rondo Śródka in Poznań, and by routes 394 and 396 from Koziegłowy. The bus stop is called Kicin Szkolna. This information provides a guide for travelling by bus; the places of departure and routes listed are the key reference points for planning. When choosing accommodation in Kicin, you can first consider whether the trails, the quest or the church will be the main focus of your trip. Hotels, holiday apartments and holiday homes are different types of accommodation that you can choose according to your personal requirements.
