Lusowo: Lake, Nature and History

Lusowo brings together Lake Lusowskie, protected landscapes and local history reflected in its church, palace and park complex, and museum. The town offers several points to consider when choosing a travel destination: water and nature are as much a part of the picture as architectural and commemorative heritage.

Lake, river valley and protected nature

The protected landscape area around Lusowo includes Lake Lusowskie and the valley channel of the Sama River. It also protects woodland complexes on the lake’s southern shore, as well as wetlands with stands of great fen-sedge (Cladium mariscus). Together, the lake, river valley, woodland and wetlands shape the area’s natural character. Those who pay particular attention to landscapes and nature when planning a trip will find more than just a single lake as a point of reference here.

Lusowo bathing area is located on Lake Lusowskie. Its facilities include a bar, toilets, changing rooms and a pier. Water sports equipment is also available for hire near the beach. There is also a volleyball court, a multi-purpose sports court and a children’s playground. These amenities cater to different interests: the beach focuses on water and water sports, while the playing areas provide additional activities nearby.

Church, complex and museum

The town’s architectural history is also reflected in specific places. The parish Church of St James and St Hedwig in Lusowo is a listed historic building dating from the 15th century; it was remodelled between 1916 and 1918. The present-day Church of St Hedwig and St James was consecrated on 23 June 1918.

The palace and park complex in Lusowo dates from the mid-19th century and is a listed historic site. It comprises a palace and a park. The Muzeum Powstańców Wielkopolskich im. Gen. Józefa Dowbora Muśnickiego offers another way to explore history. Items on display there include original documents, maps and photographs, as well as flags, uniforms, military objects, models and other memorabilia. This offers different themes to consider when choosing a destination: historic architecture on the one hand, and the history of the uprising and material evidence in the museum on the other.

Experiences and getting there

The BLusowo Festival 2024 is one example of a family-oriented event programme. A free event was announced for Saturday, 13 July, with a children’s blues zone, food stalls and a beach on Lake Lusowskie. This is a time-specific example from 2024, not an indication of an upcoming event date.

Buses 802 from Ogrody and 805 from Junikowo run from Poznań to Lusowo.
