Januszkowo combines an archaeological history dating back to prehistoric times with two named routes: a cycling route and a black hiking trail that pass through the village. This means you can get to know the area through different interests—its very early settlement history and routes to explore by bike or on foot. These features can provide a starting point when choosing a destination or holiday apartment: the key question is whether you primarily want to discover cultural history or make physical activity the focus of your plans.

An early settlement history

During excavations in Januszkowo in 1976, one of the largest known settlements of the Komornica culture in the Oder and Vistula basins was discovered. It dates to the Early Mesolithic, around the 7th to 6th millennium BC. Finds included traces of dwelling and storage pits, animal bones, and stone tools. The archaeological classification gives the discovery a specific timeframe; the finds mentioned also make it more tangible than a date alone. Januszkowo is therefore also of interest to travelers interested in cultural history because of its settlement history reaching far back into the past.

Cycling route and hiking trail

The approximately 37 km cycling route “Rowerem po okolicach gminy Nowa Wieś Wielka” passes through Januszkowo and was created by the Nowa Wieś Wielka team. Its Polish name can be understood as “Cycling in the area around the municipality of Nowa Wieś Wielka.” The length gives a specific measure of the route for a cycling trip; Januszkowo lies along its course and is therefore part of the named route.

The black hiking trail “18. Południka” also passes through Januszkowo. It runs from Nowa Wieś Wielka through the village and along the Nowy Kanał Notecki to an obelisk at the intersection of the 18th meridian and the 53rd parallel. “Południka” means meridian, so the trail’s name refers to a geographical point of reference that becomes concrete at its endpoint. A county hiking guide from 2011 gives the route’s length as 10.2 km. A municipal report dated December 2023 lists it as 10 km, rounded.

Comparing route lengths

If you’d like to include cycling and hiking in your plans, the two routes offer different distances: about 37 km for the cycling route and around 10 km for the hiking trail. They also differ in how you travel. This information can help you shape your trip around whether you prefer a longer bike ride or a shorter hike.

A listing for a playground

A municipal report from 2023 listed a playground at the Ĺšwietlica wiejska, the village community center. If a playground is important to your family plans, bear in mind that this listing reflects information from 2023 and check its current condition before visiting.
