St. Barbara’s Chapel: Timber Construction with Distinctive Details
St. Barbara’s Chapel in Rypin was built before 1694. Its timber log structure rests on a stone plinth, topped by a multi-faceted shingle roof. The small tower with its tented roof and the restored wall paintings add to its distinctive features. The timber, stone and shingles form a clearly understandable structure: the plinth supports the wooden building, while the roof surfaces and small tower define its silhouette. Visitors interested in historic architecture will find several specific features here that reveal its construction and design.
Places of Remembrance and History
Today, the Muzeum Ziemi Dobrzyńskiej is housed in the former police commission headquarters. During the first months of the German occupation, members of the paramilitary Selbstschutz and Gestapo officers detained, tortured and murdered residents of the Dobrzyń region there. The history of the building is therefore closely linked to the remembrance of those persecuted. The museum also houses archaeological exhibits, books, photographs and everyday objects.
The Jewish cemetery is also part of Rypin’s history of remembrance. It was probably established in the 18th or 19th century and destroyed during the Second World War. After the war, a lapidarium was created from damaged tombstones. The cautious dating of the cemetery and the later creation of the lapidarium mark two distinct chapters in this history.
Culture and Activity

Park nad rzeką Rypienicą lies in the southwest of Rypin; its terrain varies due to its location in the river valley. Protected natural heritage also includes Lipa Rudolfa Radatza, a natural monument in the complex of buildings belonging to the Evangelical-Augsburg Church on ul. Tadeusza Kościuszki.
Church architecture and sacred art also add distinctive features to the wider Rypin destination. The Church of the Holy Trinity was built in 1355 with funds from a foundation established by the Dobrzyń princes Bolesław and Władysław. A sacred stained-glass window by Państwo Bednarscy depicts the Last Supper. With an area of 212 m², it is one of the largest stained-glass windows in Europe.
In the wider Rypin destination, the Rypińskie Centrum Sportu includes a 12.5 × 15 m leisure pool with attractions and a children’s paddling pool. It also has an outdoor tubular water slide approximately 106 m long with a plunge pool, and a hydromassage tub at the edge of the pool.
